Pink Tutu Vienna: Post 139 - A Whirlwind Waltz in Vienna

Wednesday, December 31st, 1997

Dearest Pink Tutu followers! I hope this finds you all feeling bright and festive, like a perfectly decorated Christmas tree twinkling under the snowy sky. I'm writing to you from Vienna, a city so enchanting it practically demands a twirl in a pink tutu. Honestly, it's the most romantic city I've ever visited, full of beautiful architecture, enchanting music, and decadent cakes that practically melt in your mouth.

This trip has been quite a whirlwind - from a glorious ballet performance of "The Nutcracker" on Boxing Day to an exciting discovery of the most beautiful tutu boutique on Graben, a street packed with fascinating shops that just call out to be explored. Honestly, this city is a shopaholic's paradise! And I can't forget about the delicious Viennese pastries! I indulged in an apfelstrudel the other day, and let me tell you, it was divine. The sweet, flaky crust, the spiced apple filling... truly a taste of heaven.

Vienna, with its long history of artistic and musical heritage, is simply a haven for a ballet-obsessed pink tutu-clad traveler like myself. Itā€™s the birthplace of the waltz, a dance that truly embodies the city's spirit. I can almost hear the music echoing through the streets, swirling around the elegant horse-drawn carriages, and captivating the very souls of those walking within its beautiful, historic buildings.

Oh, and did I mention the horses?! Vienna has an amazing selection of stunning, powerful horses, and let me tell you, a horse-drawn carriage ride through the streets of this magnificent city is an absolute must. As the elegant carriage glides along, the clinking of hooves against cobblestones serenades you while you are gently taken in by the beauty of this magnificent city. And with the snowy scenery adding a touch of magic, it was almost as if I'd stepped out of a fairy tale!

But before I get too carried away with the romanticism, I have to talk about the show I saw. The Vienna State Opera put on the most beautiful production of "The Nutcracker" that I've ever witnessed. The dancers were incredible! Every pirouette, every jump, every expression told a story that truly transported me to a world of imagination. It was a truly magical evening, leaving me feeling completely captivated and in awe of the dancersā€™ incredible artistry. I mean, they danced with so much grace and poise; they seemed to float through the air effortlessly! The costumes were absolutely divine, and the scenery, well, it looked like it was straight out of a fairytale. I couldnā€™t help but twirl along in my pink tutu - it just seemed fitting.

And speaking of pink tutus... Oh, the boutique on Graben! You wouldn't believe the selection they had! There were pink tutus in every shade imaginable: blush pink, coral pink, raspberry pink, hot pinkā€¦ you name it, they had it! I picked up a stunning, vintage pink tulle tutu for a steal. Honestly, I might have gone a bit overboard and bought a few other pretty pink ballet-inspired outfits too, but I promise I didn't break the bank! Letā€™s just say it involved some careful budgeting, a healthy dose of creativity, and a little bit of shopping magic.

However, I have to confess that my biggest adventure of this trip wasnā€™t a ballet or a fancy shop, but the most adorable tea room called ā€œCafe Sacher.ā€ Tucked away on a side street, it had been mentioned in some travel blogs and recommended to me by a kind shopkeeper, who saw my pink tutu, and pointed me in its direction with a wink. Their traditional sachertorte, a chocolate cake layered with apricot jam, was simply divine! And the ambiance, oh, the ambiance was utterly charming. It had high ceilings, large windows, and walls adorned with old photographs and artwork, giving it a sense of old-world elegance. I enjoyed a warm cup of tea, a slice of sachertorte, and some leisurely people watching - you never know who you'll see here, from local artists and actors to renowned poets and musicians. It really felt like a place where everyone came to share in the spirit of Vienna.

So, my Pink Tutu followers, Vienna is a city of dreams, enchantment, and, yes, even the odd indulgent chocolate cake. It's a place that inspires you to dream big, to embrace the beauty of life, and to twirl, with joyful abandon, in a pink tutu. It truly is a city that celebrates all things beautiful and inspiring - especially pink! Iā€™m definitely planning on coming back and sharing more pink tutu adventures in this wondrous city soon.

Until next time, remember, keep those pink tutus close and never be afraid to embrace your inner ballerina.

Yours in pink,

Emma
