Pink Tutu Vienna - Blog Post #141 - 14th January, 1998

Hello darlings!

Vienna, oh Vienna. I feel like I've stepped into a fairytale here! It's so beautiful, with its grand architecture and romantic cobblestone streets. The air even smells different here - somehow lighter, sweeter.

It's freezing though, even by Derbyshire standards, and my toes are feeling a bit chilly even with the pink fluffy tights I bought in Innsbruck, bless their cotton socks! But a little cold weather can't dampen my spirits. Not when Vienna is offering up a whole week of cultural treats!

And to celebrate a full seven days of waltzes, operas, and hopefully, lots of pink, I'm writing this post a little earlier than usual - Wednesday, January 14th to be precise! Don't worry, I'll be back with my regular Wednesday post next week.

Fashionably Frozen in Vienna

Let's start with my outfit! Of course, no trip to Vienna could be complete without a new pink tutu. And what's even more wonderful is this one has a layer of shimmering sequins that catch the light like a thousand tiny stars. My friend Astrid, a fashion designer I met on my travels (isn't it great when you meet other like-minded souls!), suggested adding a pink velvet coat. And with the perfect pair of sparkly ballet shoes, I'm ready to twirl my way through this beautiful city.

Ballet Bliss in Vienna

Tonight, I'm going to see the Vienna State Opera's production of 'La Bayadere'. I know, it's absolutely classic. But Vienna and classical ballet have such a rich history together, I feel like I can't miss it. It's also my first visit to the magnificent Vienna State Opera House - I can't even imagine what it will be like inside! And I'm dying to know if they've kept some of the original costumes, particularly the tutus, of course! If you know, drop me a comment below!

I also learned that a new exhibit called "Ballet Fantasies" opens this week at the Vienna Museum. Imagine, all my favourite ballet designs from the past! It's going to be a dream come true, just the sort of historical research I love to do for my future tutu collections.

Exploring Vienna's Treasures

There's so much more to Vienna than just ballet though. This city is bursting with history, culture and delicious Viennese coffee and cakes!

Tomorrow, I'm planning a trip to the Hofburg Palace, home to the Habsburg emperors for centuries. You know I love exploring places with royal connections! I wonder if the princesses here had pink tutus in their closets! After the palace, a stroll through the beautiful Schönbrunn Gardens. I hear there are amazing flower arrangements this time of year! Then I have booked a delightful carriage ride through the city center – a perfect way to feel like I’m stepping straight out of a Jane Austen novel.

Of course, no visit to Vienna is complete without sampling the local delicacies. A rich Viennese coffee with Sachertorte and maybe even a Apfelstrudel - now that’s what I call a delightful treat! Oh, and if you’re a fan of Mozart, make sure you check out the Vienna State Opera House or Mozart House while you’re in town!

Tutu Time in Vienna

Let's get one thing clear - I'm not trying to convince everyone to wear a pink tutu 24/7. Though, if it inspires you, I wouldn’t mind, honestly! But what I do hope to do, my lovelies, is encourage you all to explore your own unique styles and embrace what makes you happy. Let's all twirl and dance our way through life with confidence, creativity and joy, whether in a pink tutu, a crisp suit, or just a comfy sweater.

And if you're visiting Vienna anytime soon, feel free to come find me! I'd love to meet you and maybe grab a coffee and chat about ballet and pink tutus, and why not, a delicious piece of Sachertorte or Apfelstrudel too!

Keep shining, my lovely dancers!

Love, Emma
