Vienna, My Dearest Vienna - A Pink Tutu Wonderland! (Post #156)
Hello lovelies! It’s Wednesday, which means it's time for another instalment of my Vienna adventures, brought to you from the very heart of this glorious city. This week, oh my goodness, has been a whirlwind of pink, tulle, and Viennese charm, and I’m bubbling over with excitement to share it all with you!
Firstly, let me just say, this city is a dream come true for a tutu-loving, pink-obsessed gal like me! The architecture is so exquisite, with its ornate palaces and majestic squares, all beautifully dusted with pastel hues – pink, of course, being the dominant shade. And the streets! They’re a wonderland of boutiques bursting with the most beautiful frocks and accessories. I’m talking lace, feathers, sequins, and all the things that make a ballerina’s heart skip a beat.
Speaking of which, you wouldn’t believe the ballet performances I’ve been enjoying this week. On Monday, I took in the "Giselle" at the Vienna State Opera, and let me tell you, the costumes were simply breathtaking! A vision of white tulle, silk, and flowers – pure ballet heaven! I practically gasped when the lead ballerina came twirling onto the stage. It was almost like stepping back into the Romantic era of ballet – sheer magic, truly.
After that, my Tuesday was dedicated to something truly unique! I discovered this charming little shop tucked away on a side street – imagine my delight when I discovered it’s dedicated to all things tutus! Not just any tutus, mind you, but historical tutus! They had replicas of tutus from the very first ballerinas, back to the 18th century. Can you imagine, a pink tutu worn by a ballerina hundreds of years ago? Just thinking about it gives me goosebumps!
But enough about me and my tulle obsession, let’s get down to the nitty-gritty of Vienna itself. I spent the morning wandering around the Schönbrunn Palace gardens. This place is like stepping into a fairytale. Imagine vast manicured lawns, manicured bushes pruned into the shapes of animals (did someone say flamingo?), fountains spraying sparkling water, and flower beds bursting with colours - everything you'd find in a storybook garden. I, naturally, donned my prettiest pink tutu and took the most gorgeous photos – think flowing tulle and grand architecture. Pink and pink and more pink! It’s a cliché, but truly, pink is simply made for such beauty!
Oh, and before I forget, have you ever had Sachertorte? This chocolatey, decadent masterpiece is a Viennese icon, and a must for any visitor. My taste buds are still tingling with the memory!
And the most important aspect of any adventure? The travel! Vienna's public transport system is incredible – sleek, clean, and efficient. I took the train to the palace this time. Riding through the Austrian countryside is truly magical. Green rolling hills, medieval castles perched on rocky heights – it's like stepping out of a movie set. And you know what goes perfectly with a scenic train journey? That’s right! A pink tutu!
This Week's Ballet Finds
The other day, I discovered a small shop nestled away in a cobblestoned alley that has become my new go-to for ballet accessories. It’s called ‘La Ballerina’ – it feels so vintage and quaint. I snagged the most adorable little hand-painted ballet shoes for my ballerina bag, a little pin with a pair of dancing ballerinas on it, and some stunning fabric that’s the most perfect shade of pink - you guessed it, it’s going into my next tutu creation.
Speaking of tutu creation, I’ve been sketching up new designs! My latest creation is inspired by the grand balls of Vienna – a majestic pink tutu with layers of soft tulle and shimmering details. It'll be a statement piece, fit for a waltz under the chandeliers of a ballroom.
Let’s talk Fashion!
Speaking of Vienna and fashion, the shops are simply bursting with charm! I found some stunning vintage pieces – a beautiful beaded blouse and a 1950s full skirt that is the most gorgeous shade of coral pink. I’ve been wearing my pink tutus as part of some amazing looks that’ll be popping up on my Instagram (@PinkTutuVienna) so stay tuned for those, my dears.
This city is bursting with so much culture and beauty, and it’s truly been a dream come true for this little ballerina from Derbyshire. My heart feels full and my head is brimming with ideas for future pink tutu adventures! Until next week, my dears. Remember to spread the pink tutu love! And do let me know your favourite places to visit in Vienna if you’re a fellow tutu-wearing travel enthusiast!
Stay fabulous,
Emma
P.S. I just booked tickets to see ‘Swan Lake’ at the Vienna Opera House! Can you even imagine?! I’m going to be there on Saturday, 29th April 1998! This is a truly unforgettable date for my ballet obsessed self!
P.P.S The new pink tutus are now live in the shop section on my website www.pink-tutu.com. Go check them out!
