Pink Tutu Vienna - Post #157 - 06th May 1998

Dearest Tutu-lovers!

Another week, another adventure! I'm back in Vienna, Austria, where the music is as sweet as a waltz, the streets are lined with cobblestones, and the architecture is simply stunning! (Iā€™m absolutely besotted with Vienna, honestly, itā€™s my absolute favourite city in Europe - apart from Paris).

But letā€™s be honest, my main draw to this fabulous city is the world-renowned ballet scene. Itā€™s just one of those places where history, art, and dancing collide in a symphony of graceful perfection.

This week, I've been on the hunt for the perfect pink tutu. It's all I can talk about, actually! Honestly, just thinking about all those beautiful fabrics and delicate layers - I could dance for hours just thinking about them!

As usual, I'm determined to document my entire trip for you lovely lot, including some sneak peeks into the fashion I've discovered in the city's vintage boutiques! Oh, and speaking of sneak peeks - I've been absolutely thrilled to have a go on a lovely horse and cart! We explored the park on the outskirts of Vienna and it was simply magical! I couldnā€™t resist a few twirls - a pink tutu and a horse and cart - truly, it was a fairytale!

I'll be honest, Vienna has stolen my heart! There's something special about its blend of tradition and modernity. Itā€™s like being transported back to a time when grand balls were all the rage, with beautiful ladies in fabulous dresses, swirling around to the melody of violins! (Don't even get me started on the chandeliers! Oh, and let's not forget about the delicious pastries and hot chocolate!)

Anyway, enough about my rambling - Iā€™ve been making the most of the sunny weather here in Vienna, exploring the city with my lovely little notebook, snapping photos, and soaking up all the magic. I think Vienna would be perfect for a ballerina-themed fairytale story, wouldnā€™t you? Just imagine a graceful princess dancing amongst the opulent palaces, whipping her pink tulle skirt around! sighs dreamily I'm a sucker for happy endings, and Vienna seems to ooze pure magic!

Wednesday at The Vienna State Opera House

Speaking of magic, tonight, Iā€™m seeing "The Nutcracker" at the Vienna State Opera House. The anticipation is practically killing me! Can you believe it? "The Nutcracker"! At THE Vienna State Opera House! It's practically an absolute dream! It's certainly going to be one for the books, especially since I'm in a gorgeous new pink tutu I bought at a lovely vintage shop. winks conspiratorially

Donā€™t even get me started on the ballet company; itā€™s considered one of the best in the world! Iā€™m so excited about seeing such an incredible company perform such an iconic work. The energy will be electric! And to think I might even get some inspiration for my next creation - maybe a custom-made ā€œNutcrackerā€ tutu! The world is my oyster, just waiting for a little dose of pink magic!

My Fashion Must-Haves

While Iā€™ve been busy indulging in my favourite pastime - ballet - Iā€™ve also been busy doing some much needed fashion shopping. Thereā€™s nothing quite like exploring the backstreets of Vienna and coming across some vintage gems - especially when it comes to tutus, shoes, and sparkly accessories! Vienna definitely is my vintage treasure trove and I have found some absolutely breathtaking pieces - including a new blush pink cashmere coat which is my new wardrobe essential - perfect for the cooler Austrian weather!

Of Course, You Couldnā€™t Come To Vienna Without ...

Letā€™s face it, when youā€™re in Vienna, you just have to experience all of its amazing things:

  • Sacher Torte: The iconic chocolate cake - a Viennese tradition that's a real treat for any sweet tooth! (Did I mention I was once even lucky enough to have tea with the Head Chef? And I wore my pink tutu - I have to wear pink tutus whenever I have an opportunity! I told him he needed more pink in the dessert section.) Itā€™s all about making the world a prettier place!
  • St. Stephenā€™s Cathedral: The main church, full of ornate beauty! Honestly, you'd be amazed. It's such a sight to behold and I love its beautiful, ancient architecture. The inside of the Cathedral was a symphony of light and beauty, and I couldnā€™t help but think that the stained glass windows reminded me of the colourful layers of my pink tutus! I guess itā€™s all about seeing beauty wherever you go!
  • The Vienna State Opera House: Iā€™ve mentioned it already, but it really is something else. Honestly, the moment I stepped inside, it was like stepping back into a grand era of elegance. I couldnā€™t wait to see how their performances measure up - and I certainly was not disappointed. It was breathtaking!
  • The Imperial Palace: Okay, so, we know I love castles. This oneā€™s steeped in history! The Vienna State Opera house sits pretty on one of its many wings, so we were exploring in all its magnificent grandeur and we got lost in a world of royal tales! It was pretty special to walk through rooms that had been adorned by some of Europe's most notable rulers - you know, the Habsburgs!
  • The Schƶnbrunn Palace: Did you know the Habsburgs used to live here?! I felt like Iā€™d walked into one of my favourite fairy tales, only this time, the fairytale was actually real.

    What a treat to explore!

Vienna is a vibrant mix of old and new and it was a real treat to be swept away by its romantic atmosphere, rich history, beautiful sights and incredible cultural experience. Itā€™s one of the cities that makes me proud to be a ballerina. If only I had a carriage I could pull with a beautiful white horse to drive around town - thatā€™d certainly make everyone take a second look!

Iā€™ll let you know how tonight's performance goes in my next post and in the meantime, be sure to leave me a comment below. Iā€™d love to hear about your thoughts on Vienna! Do you dream of ballet? Do you own a pink tutu? Are you dreaming of a horse-drawn carriage?!

Remember to share your passion for dance, fashion, and, of course, pink tutus with the world. Keep shining brightly! Iā€™m signing off until next Wednesday!
