Vienna, Oh Vienna! My Pink Tutu Adventures - Post #164

Wednesday 24th June 1998

Guten Tag, darling readers! This week I'm writing to you from Vienna, a city that is truly a feast for the eyes and the soul! My dear friend, Sophie, and I hopped aboard the Orient Express on Monday - an experience I'll never forget! It was all velvet upholstery and crystal glasses, and Sophie even wore a lovely, if slightly flamboyant, feather boa - so Parisian chic!

Vienna is known for its stunning architecture and rich history, and my pink tutu has already taken me on quite the tour! Yesterday, we strolled through the Hofburg Palace, marveling at the opulent halls and gazing at the gilded carriages in the Imperial Treasury. Later, I discovered the most beautiful antique shop nestled on a quiet cobbled street, and I couldn't resist a pair of shimmering pink opera gloves. Just the thing to complete my outfit for the Vienna State Opera!

Speaking of ballet, dear readers, you simply must experience ballet in Vienna. The sheer elegance and grandeur of the Vienna State Opera is breathtaking. It's been on my bucket list since I was a little girl, twirling around my bedroom in a pink tulle confection, dreaming of ballerinas leaping through the air.

Tonight, I'll be witnessing a performance of Giselle. Now, let me tell you a little bit about Giselle. It's a truly beautiful ballet, one that always makes me weep with emotion. The story of Giselle, the young village girl betrayed by her lover, has captured the hearts of ballet lovers for centuries. The choreography, the music... It's pure magic, darlings!

And what outfit to wear? Why, my trusty pink tutu, of course! I've paired it with a simple white camisole and my newly acquired opera gloves for a touch of old-world elegance. My friend Sophie says it makes me look like a ballerina from a bygone era - and isn't that just the best compliment?

Before I get too caught up in the excitement of the evening, let me share some Viennese tidbits with you. The food is divine! Sachertorte - a decadent chocolate cake - is a must-try. It's as rich and creamy as the grand palaces here! Vienna also boasts charming cafes, overflowing with pastries, and cobblestone streets that beckon you to explore their hidden secrets.

Tomorrow, I'm planning on visiting the Schönbrunn Palace - you know, the one with the beautiful gardens and the majestic Empress Sisi? My pink tutu and I are ready for another day of Viennese enchantment! And then, on Saturday, Sophie and I are going on a carriage ride through the Vienna Woods - just imagine the picturesque scenery and the delightful click-clack of the hooves on the cobblestones!

Of course, no trip would be complete without a little ballet shopping. The city is a paradise for those of us with a passion for dance and all things fabulous. Today, I treated myself to a pair of shimmering pointe shoes with matching pink ribbons, perfect for my afternoon ballet class in a nearby studio. Vienna truly inspires, darling readers!

And to all my tutu-loving readers: keep on twirling and remember, life is too short to wear boring clothes. Let's spread the pink tutu love all over the world!

Until next week, keep those tutus twirling and don't forget to dream big! I'll be sharing more of my Vienna adventures next Wednesday, right here on pink-tutu.com!

Yours always,

Emma, the Pink Tutu Ballerina
