Pink Tutu Vienna - Post 163 - 17th June 1998

Oh, hello darlings! It’s Wednesday, which means it's time for another Pink Tutu Vienna blog post, straight from my laptop at my favourite Viennese café! The aroma of strong Viennese coffee, the clinking of teacups, the sunshine filtering through the cafe windows, all creating a symphony of delightful ambiance, while I'm dressed in my tutu of the day: a dreamy, blush-pink number with tulle so light it practically floats! It goes perfectly with the vibrant Viennese summer vibes.

Vienna truly is the most charming city. With its graceful architecture, magnificent gardens, and, of course, its legendary ballet history! There's simply so much inspiration to be found here, and I'm utterly smitten!

This week has been a whirlwind of tutu-wearing fun and adventure. Just imagine – being whisked away from Derbyshire on a glamorous ballet tour that spans across Europe! It’s a bit like a fairy-tale dream come true!

Remember my passion for horse-drawn carriages? Well, I've discovered a delightful stable near my hotel, and I’ve spent some glorious afternoons taking leisurely trips through the city's picturesque streets in a regal, cream-coloured carriage drawn by a handsome, dappled grey stallion! It truly transports you back to another time. I felt every bit a royal ballerina on tour, although, truth be told, I’m not sure my horse-drawn carriage ride made me any better at ballet (though I did practice my 'pliés' in my carriage seat).

It seems Vienna has the most incredible collection of second-hand clothes shops! I could spend weeks sifting through the racks. My quest is always for vintage finds - the more sparkly and feminine, the better! I found the most delightful cream, lace-trimmed vintage coat and a fluffy pink cardigan, just perfect for layering. After a few hours spent in the vintage stores I found myself in a lovely cafe – an idyllic Parisian style cafe with red and white checkered table cloths, and a delicious raspberry cheesecake to share with my dear companion – my lovely pink tutu.

Vienna's ballet scene, like its coffee, is truly enchanting! The Opera House is a masterpiece of architectural splendour. A breathtakingly elegant and grandiose building, just waiting to welcome you with a captivating ballet. The interior is lavishly adorned, creating a setting as befitting a queen. The opulence is utterly inspiring.

This week's ballet performance – “Giselle” – left me speechless, the storyline is so moving! The graceful movements of the ballerinas filled me with so much joy. Every detail of the costume, the sets, and the dancing is exquisite, it is truly a dream.

There’s simply something magical about ballet that fills me with joy. The music, the costumes, the beauty, the movement - everything comes together to transport me to a world of pure joy! I find it inspiring – ballet is truly a dance form that celebrates all that’s feminine, elegant, and graceful. Perhaps it's why I believe everyone should wear a tutu - a little bit of sparkle goes a long way to bring joy!

As the day draws to a close, I'm off to explore Vienna by foot - another lovely city for a wander around with my pink tutu. Tomorrow I plan to visit the famous Schönbrunn Palace Gardens!

Join me again next Wednesday for more of my Pink Tutu Vienna blog - stay sparkly and love the world around you. Always remember to embrace your femininity, dance with joy, and never stop dreaming!

Love,

Emma

What's Happening in Vienna Today:

A Glimpse into Today's Vienna:

  • Today, 17th June, marks a momentous day for Vienna as we celebrate International Music Day. This special occasion is dedicated to the world of music, its role in shaping cultures, and bringing people together. The streets of Vienna will be alive with music as musicians from around the city take part in various performances.

  • There are many activities taking place across the city as part of the Music Day celebrations - free concerts in public spaces, street performances, and special offers on music-related events at various venues.

  • And, of course, for a ballet-loving soul like myself, the Vienna State Opera offers a spectacular ballet performance. Today they're showcasing "Giselle", a hauntingly beautiful romantic ballet. The performances of "Giselle" are some of the most magical in all of Europe - they’re renowned for their breathtaking grace, stunning costumes, and tragic yet uplifting story.

  • As an avid shopper and admirer of vintage style, I also highly recommend a visit to the famous Naschmarkt. It's a bustling open-air market full of vendors, from fresh produce and delicious food to unique crafts and vintage clothing, this lively market will truly transport you to another world!

And lastly - a tip for those travelling to Vienna in the summer months.

Do make sure you pick up a hand-held fan or a parasol. It gets quite hot during the summer in Vienna - this city has a truly magical vibe, however the temperatures can soar so make sure you’re prepared! It won’t be long before the streets of Vienna are alive with a plethora of beautiful blooming summer flowers and lush foliage, but for now, Vienna is wrapped up in a light, warm, springlike embrace. It is so perfect.
