Hello my darlings! 🎀 It's Emma here, and this week I've been waltzing through the streets of Vienna, Austria! Vienna, the city of waltzes, opera, and oh so much delicious pastry - I'm simply in heaven. 🧁
This week's adventure started with a jaunt on the train from beautiful, sun-drenched Derbyshire. The train ride was an absolute dream - watching the green fields of England fade into the more dramatic, mountainous landscape of Austria was utterly enchanting. The feeling of anticipation, of being on my way to somewhere exciting, is almost as wonderful as arriving. And this time, arriving was even better!
I must say, my chosen attire was perfect for this journey - a fluffy, pale pink tutu, with an exquisitely delicate floral pattern, matched with a soft white blouse and my favourite pair of sparkly pink ballet flats. You can never go wrong with a little sparkle, can you? 💖
And once I stepped off the train in Vienna, the city embraced me in its warm, artistic glow. The air itself seems to thrum with the sound of music, and the architecture is positively breathtaking! From the towering Gothic spires of St. Stephen's Cathedral to the majestic, imperial buildings of the Hofburg Palace, there is a grandeur to this city that is quite overwhelming.
Of course, the moment I arrived, I dashed to a boutique right next to my hotel, to buy the perfect pink outfit for my ballet explorations this week. This one is so fabulous, with tiny diamanté's around the waistband and it's the softest pink - the colour of a sugared cherry! 🍒
Now, Vienna is the perfect place to indulge in all things ballet, and I'm making the most of every moment! My days are a delicious whirl of ballet performances, rehearsals, and historical tours. I've been learning so much about the history of ballet in this city - did you know it was one of the first places where ballet was officially codified and taught in Europe? Fascinating, isn't it? I love tracing the steps of famous dancers from the past, feeling a sense of connection with their dedication and artistry.
My First Night In Vienna - Oh, The Magic!
My first night was spectacular. I took in a magnificent performance at the Vienna State Opera House, which, I have to say, is the most beautiful opera house I have ever seen. Imagine a vast, gilt-framed space, adorned with sparkling chandeliers and plush velvet seating - it's just perfect for a dreamy, theatrical experience.
I was lucky enough to see "Swan Lake." Oh, my darling, the story and the music, the grace of the ballerinas, it was pure magic! And the costumes - I simply cannot get over the exquisite detailing of the ballerina’s white swan tutu. Such beautiful work, it really gave me so much inspiration. 💖
Vienna’s Hidden Ballet Gems
It's not all grand opera houses and prestigious performances, however! Vienna is bursting with ballet in unexpected places. I even found a quaint ballet studio tucked away in a small cobblestone alley - what a find! It's full of such personality and charm. They teach traditional classical ballet, and they also offer a variety of workshops on other dance styles. I think I might just join in a class myself next week!
On Monday, I took a leisurely carriage ride through the Stadtpark. It's so romantic to have the horses clip-clop along the cobblestone streets while you see all the gorgeous green trees and historical monuments. And imagine, my beautiful pink tutu fluttered gently as the carriage moved along. Perfection!
