Pink Tutu Vienna: Post #198: Vienna waltzing into my heart!

Dearest Tutu Twirlers,

Happy Wednesday, and welcome back to another edition of Pink Tutu Vienna! This week, I've taken a leap from the cobbled streets of Prague (oh, those gorgeous shops!) and landed in the enchanting city of Vienna. Vienna! The very name whispers of waltz, of Strauss, of exquisite pastries, and of course... of ballet!

Yes, darling tutus, this week, Vienna is swirling with my favourite form of dance! I've arrived at just the right moment, as they say, and the city is truly humming with all things ballet! I just adore it when the ballet season is in full swing! The whole air takes on a certainā€¦elegance, don't you think? Everything just feels more poised, more beautiful!

My journey here was a dream, of course. A glorious ride on the overnight train from Prague, my carriage a haven of silk and velvet. I couldn't resist pulling out my rose-pink travelling tutu and twirling a few times as we crossed the border. I did, of course, wear a floor-length fur coat for the colder stretches of the trip! You just can't go wrong with a classic winter look for a proper long-distance train journey. It made a splendid sight for fellow passengers Iā€™m sure!

This week I've already been lucky enough to witness some amazing sights, and of course Iā€™m in a true ā€œballet-bubbleā€ at the moment! It truly is the perfect setting for a ballerina and her tutu, the streets are alive with the music of Mozart and Strauss, and the coffee is... well, you simply HAVE to experience Vienna's famous coffee culture, darling! It's the ideal place to sip your espresso while wearing a gorgeous pink tutu.

Speaking of Viennaā€™s famed ballet company, I absolutely HAD to go see ā€œGiselle.ā€ The Viennese Opera is a glorious edifice! My dear, you could get lost in its beauty for days, so imagine the magnificence of its interiors when itā€™s filled with ballet. Such drama! Such elegance! It made me feel positively pirouette-ready! And, let me tell you, the company danced with such passion! I had chills throughout.

My goodness, the entire city feels steeped in ballet history! Every street corner is teeming with stories of great dancers, ballerinas, choreographers! I felt the spirit of the greats swirling all around me. It was thrilling! There's a real, almost tangible sense of ballet in the very air. Even the lampposts seemed to be doing a grand jetƩ!

I've already been busy making a list of all the shops and museums that any self-respecting ballet enthusiast would have to visit while in Vienna. Of course, Iā€™m planning to treat myself to a lovely pink tutu or two at one of the fine Vienna shops! This week Iā€™ve also spotted some adorable hand-painted, vintage tutus in a shop on Graben street... a bit pricey, but worth every penny for a true ballerina's treasure, right? Vienna, as you know, is quite the centre of shopping, especially for gorgeous clothing! But I will tell you all about my fashion finds in a future post, as I'm still exploring.

As a matter of fact, on the 17th, a little bird told me that the Viennese Ballet are performing Tchaikovsky's "Swan Lake" in the Imperial Theatre (of all places!). How absolutely fitting! And if it's half as good as ā€œGiselle,ā€ well, I think I'll have tears in my eyes!

Did you know that on 17th February 1840, The famous Russian ballet choreographer Marius Petipa was born? Can you believe, on the same day 159 years ago? And yes, darling, my calendar, as you may guess, includes all the important dates for ballet history! If only we could rewind to those incredible ballets.

Oh, and how could I forget about this week's Ballet street performance I attended? It's in one of those little piazzas in the Old Town and it was absolutely bursting with energy, my dears. A fantastic group of young ballet students. All full of life and colour and such a delight to watch, and there I was, standing with a pink tutu, happily swirling around to the music!

For the ballet lover in all of us, my dearest tutu-wearing lovelies, Vienna truly is a wonderland! And thatā€™s why itā€™s in my top five cities! This city simply gets me every time. The buildings are stunning, the parks are magnificent (did I tell you, I even took a carriage ride with a horse in Schƶnbrunn Park? So decadent! And all those lovely pink blossoms on the trees! Just beautiful!)

Thereā€™s such a sense of magic, you simply canā€™t beat it!
