Pink Tutu Vienna: #203 - Waltz into Wonderland!
Hello my darling dears! 🩰🌸
It's Wednesday, which means it's time for another Pink Tutu Vienna post!
Today is a glorious March 24th, 1999, and I'm positively buzzing with excitement after a whirlwind of a week here in Vienna! I'm wearing a delicate blush pink tulle tutu (naturally!) and feeling so inspired by the incredible ballet and history I've been soaking up.
You all know my passion for pink, tutus, and travel - and Vienna just ticks all the boxes! The city is brimming with a captivating blend of imperial grandeur, artistic brilliance, and just the right amount of whimsical charm to get my inner ballerina spinning!
A Whirlwind of Vienna:
My adventure began with a picturesque train journey from the rolling green hills of Derbyshire. It’s always such a delight to watch the scenery glide by - the fields of bright yellow mustard, quaint villages, and of course, the stunning countryside views that always remind me of ballet’s elegant lines and fluid movements.
And what’s a ballet blogger to do in Vienna? Why, head to the Vienna State Opera House, of course! I’m simply over the moon with this iconic theatre – its majestic architecture, elegant interior, and of course, the legendary performances it holds. I’m actually on the brink of pinching myself - it’s all just so dream-like!
Last night, I was captivated by the Vienna State Opera’s beautiful production of Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake. The grace of the dancers, the music’s poignant beauty, and the hauntingly dramatic story simply swept me away!
It's no secret that Vienna has a rich and fascinating history of ballet – from its origins in the imperial court to its dazzling contemporary scene. After seeing Swan Lake, I couldn't resist exploring the beautiful Schönbrunn Palace. Just imagine the royal dancers of the Hapsburg era gracefully gliding through these stunning rooms!
My day has been full of fun activities that wouldn't be out of place in a fairytale. I indulged in a leisurely coffee and pastries in a café adorned with crystal chandeliers. I'm certain those ballerinas back in the day did the same, and I can only dream of what those gossips might have whispered between sips of Vienna’s famously rich coffee.
But enough about me – the star of this post is, without a doubt, my exquisite pink tutu.
It's a delightfully soft, vintage creation, adorned with delicate bows, just the sort of vintage detail you’d expect to find in Vienna's vintage shops!
I discovered the little beauty in a small antique shop nestled between the charming cafes in the first district of Vienna. The shopkeeper told me it belonged to a former ballet dancer and had travelled across continents to end up here in her little shop.
I must tell you – she couldn’t have been more thrilled to find its new home.
It couldn’t have found a more fitting destination! The soft tulle flounces around me in a symphony of swirls, as I waltzed through the city streets. This pink dream tutu was meant to bring joy to this lovely city!
I hope that every time someone sees it, they think ‘Pink Tutus – that's where I want to be!’ because if Vienna can wear it with grace and beauty, so can you.
Dress up like a ballerina, and find the inner dance in your soul! It’s never too late to unleash your inner twirling star!
Stay tuned next Wednesday for more #PinkTutuVienna fun, including some fashion tips, a little ballet history lesson, and possibly even some insider gossip on Vienna's latest ballet scene!
In the meantime, spread the love of pink and the joy of dancing! 💖🩰
