Pink Tutu Vienna - Post #226: A Waltz Through Vienna, Darling!

Oh, my darlings! Welcome back to Pink Tutu Vienna! This Wednesday, I'm waltzing through the beautiful streets of Vienna, Austria, and let me tell you, my tutu is positively swirling with excitement!

The Tutu Chronicles

You know how I always say life is a stage, and we're all dancing on it? Well, Vienna is like a grand opera house, filled with exquisite architecture, delicious pastries, and charming cafes ā€“ a perfect setting for my pink tutu, don't you think? And this week, it's all about the waltz. From its beginnings in the 16th century with its rustic beginnings, the waltz has truly become the dance of Vienna, with its romantic and captivating grace. Speaking of romance, my tulle skirt is just dying to twirl to the strains of Johann Strauss's "The Blue Danube." Itā€™s enough to make a girl feel like a princess in a fairytale!

Train Journeys & Equestrian Delights

This week, I travelled to Vienna in a gloriously old-fashioned sleeper train from Derbyshire ā€“ it's all about soaking up the journey, isn't it? Watching the rolling green countryside whizz by and enjoying the aroma of hot chocolate in the morning, it was like stepping back in time! I even had the opportunity to experience the joy of a horse-drawn carriage ride around Vienna. The clip-clop of the horseā€™s hooves against the cobbled streets, the fresh air in my hair, and the majestic stallions - absolutely magical!

Fashion & Fancies

Of course, my beloved tutu couldn't be left out of the Viennese fun! I picked up a gorgeous vintage broach in a hidden antique shop that adds a touch of royal elegance to my twirling. And, naturally, a shopping trip was in order, and wouldn't you know it, I discovered the most stunning pair of pink silk gloves, the perfect accessory for a Viennese ballet. You can bet Iā€™ll be rocking them at the opera this weekend!

A Ballet Rendezvous

Now, who am I kidding? The main attraction of this week's Vienna escapade is the ballet! This evening, Iā€™ll be attending a performance of "Giselle," and I'm practically vibrating with anticipation. From the delicate grace of the ballerinas to the powerful storytelling of the dance, "Giselle" promises to be an enthralling experience, not to mention an inspiring performance that will leave me wanting to dance in the streets until sunrise!

Dancing with Vienna

As I explore this glorious city, Iā€™m embracing every opportunity to move with the rhythm of Vienna. A casual waltz in a park, twirling through the grand avenues, even a graceful strut through the Schƶnbrunn Palace Gardens - my pink tutu is making sure every moment is infused with a touch of fairytale magic.

Pink Tutu Vienna: The Final Waltz

Vienna is truly a city that captures the essence of artistry and romance. With its grand architecture, charming traditions, and passionate spirit, it's no wonder that itā€™s known as the "City of Music." And, of course, no city can inspire a ballerina quite like this!

Until next Wednesday, darling, Your Pink Tutu friend, Emma

Here are some things I enjoyed doing in Vienna, which are relevant to the post:

  • The Vienna State Opera The Vienna State Opera, often simply referred to as the Vienna Opera or Staatsoper, is a leading opera house in the world. It is renowned for its spectacular performances, its opulent interiors, and its history dating back to 1869. A must-visit for any ballet aficionado!

  • Johann Strauss's ā€œThe Blue Danubeā€ Vienna is synonymous with the waltz, and ā€œThe Blue Danubeā€ is one of the most iconic waltzes of all time. It was composed by Johann Strauss Jr., known as the ā€œWaltz Kingā€, and it captures the romantic essence of Vienna, the capital city of Austria.

  • Schƶnbrunn Palace Built in 1696, this majestic palace is known for its stunning architecture and gardens. With over 1,441 rooms, the Schƶnbrunn Palace offers guided tours where you can delve into its historical significance and opulent details. It also offers a magnificent "Show & Dinner" performance every Saturday night. It's an experience where you'll be transported back to the days of emperors and empresses with dancing, entertainment and a delicious meal. Itā€™s a unique opportunity to step back in time and enjoy an evening of cultural delight.

  • Antique Shopping The charming and historic streets of Vienna are a haven for vintage enthusiasts! From tucked away shops filled with antique furniture, vintage clothing, and antique toys to a bustling flea market with vendors displaying unique treasures, thereā€™s always a surprise to be discovered. Vienna is a vintage haven with a history steeped in tradition, a place where you can truly step back in time!

  • Viennaā€™s Flea Markets For a fun, bargain hunting experience, visit a few of Vienna's amazing flea markets, which take place every Saturday and Sunday. The most famous are Naschmarkt (where I found a delicious Austrian breakfast), and the wonderfully chaotic "Flohmarkt" (the "Flea Market") at the Antik-Messe (Antik Market) near the metro station at Praterstern in the 2nd district.
