Pink Tutu Vienna: Post 236 - A Whirlwind of Waltz and Wiener Schnitzel!

Wednesday 10th November 1999

Darling readers,

This week, your favourite tutu-clad travel enthusiast has landed in the glorious city of Vienna! I simply had to visit the birthplace of the waltz, and let me tell you, the energy here is positively electric! It’s as if every cobblestone whispers of waltzing couples and the music of Strauss. And it’s just the beginning!

Train Travel: My New Fashion Obsession

Arriving in Vienna was an absolute dream. Travelling by train across Europe, with my tutu billowing gently in the wind, is becoming one of my favourite things to do. The views, the people, the endless possibilities...it truly feels like I'm living out my own fairy tale! The carriages are always full of interesting characters - from elegantly dressed businessmen to families enjoying their holiday.

For my Vienna journey, I went all out in my latest vintage find: a stunning cerise velvet dress with a fluffy pink tulle skirt (my inner ballerina couldn't resist the skirt!). It was the perfect blend of elegant and whimsical for the journey. It's the little things, darling, that make a difference.

A Visit to the Imperial Palace

My first stop? Vienna's grand Imperial Palace. Now, let me tell you, there's no shortage of exquisite palace decor in this city! And it was here that I found the most magnificent collection of dance costumes, both from the court's past and modern ballets. Can you imagine a pink tutu as grand as Empress Maria Theresa's court gowns?! I couldn't help but get inspired and add a dash of that royal glamour to my outfit – a vintage gold chain and my pearl earrings, perfect for a fairytale journey through the halls of history.

A Ballet Encounter

No trip to Vienna would be complete without a visit to the Vienna State Opera. The ballet, “La Bayadere” was, dare I say it, sublime! I don't think my heart stopped beating for the whole performance. It's incredible how this ancient art form still holds such power, and how the energy from the dancers resonates through the whole audience. Of course, I made sure to pick the best seat in the house and went all out with my outfit. I even had a chat with a fellow ballet enthusiast! A darling, very elegant woman who was wearing a beautiful pink beaded dress – talk about perfect ballet fashion! She gave me such valuable tips about where to find the best tutu shops in Vienna (imagine! a city dedicated to all things pink tutu-related).

An Indulgent Delicacy: Wiener Schnitzel

Let's be honest, even a ballerina needs her indulgences, right? After all that ballet and walking around, I couldn't resist treating myself to the Vienna classic: Wiener Schnitzel! Let me tell you, the combination of the crispy golden schnitzel and a light, creamy sauce was pure perfection. If there is a food better suited to enjoying while twirling in your most spectacular pink tutu, I’d love to know!

Fashion Finds in Vienna

Of course, no trip is complete without some serious shopping. My first stop was to a darling little vintage boutique hidden away in a cobblestone street. There I found the most amazing, perfectly vintage pink top hat – just perfect for adding a touch of whimsical flair to my outfits. And naturally, I had to browse the incredible selection of tutus. You’ve never seen such beautiful fabric colours – some a glorious pastel pink and others almost luminescent! It took every ounce of self control to stop myself from buying every single one. I might have just acquired a rather striking emerald green one – for the special occasion of my visit to a legendary Viennese ballet school next week. Oh my! The excitement is getting me.

Looking Ahead to Next Week: Vienna's Ballet Heartbeat

But for now, I must confess, my ballerina heart is beating a bit too fast to write anymore! Next week, I will be delving into the magical world of Vienna's ballet school. I have already scoped out the best pink tutu and ballet shoe boutiques – you won’t believe the styles, darling!

Until next Wednesday, don't forget to dance like no one is watching!

Yours in pink tutus,

Emma
