Pink Tutu Vienna: Post #246 - waltzing through Vienna!

Hello my lovely pink-loving friends! It’s Emma here, your tutu-wearing travel buddy, bringing you a new installment of Pink Tutu Vienna from the charming and oh-so-elegant city of Vienna! This week, I've been living out a real-life fairytale, exploring imperial palaces, sipping coffee at charming cafes, and twirling around the grand halls of the Vienna State Opera - all, of course, in a glorious pink tutu!

Now, this week, my adventures started in true Austrian fashion – on a horse-drawn carriage ride! I simply adore these romantic, old-world transports. It feels like you've stepped back in time as you gently trot along the cobblestone streets, past grand buildings adorned with ornate details. It was truly magical, especially with the sun glinting off the snow still clinging to the cobblestones - like sparkling jewels!

Of course, my first stop was the iconic Hofburg Palace. The Imperial Residence has stood witness to centuries of history and I felt such a sense of wonder wandering its opulent rooms and halls. Imagine being royalty and living in this sprawling castle – pure glamour!

But as you all know, my real passion is ballet, and Vienna truly shines when it comes to dance! After my visit to the Hofburg, I took a beautiful carriage ride straight to the Vienna State Opera. The opera house is a stunning example of grand architecture, and I stood in awe just staring at its façade before even setting foot inside. The interior, adorned with gilded accents and beautiful chandeliers, is even more breathtaking!

That evening, I was fortunate enough to see a spectacular performance of “Swan Lake”. This classic ballet always stirs my soul. The delicate grace of the dancers, the power of the music – it truly took my breath away! I left feeling inspired, my own twirling urges tingling as I stepped back onto the street, my heart bursting with happiness!

Tutu Talk!

I can't talk about Vienna without mentioning its amazing history of ballet. The city has been a haven for dancers and choreography for centuries, with a particularly strong tradition of Classical ballet. Some of the most iconic ballerinas of the 20th century, like Margot Fonteyn, danced at the Vienna State Opera. It is truly a legendary institution!

I had the pleasure of visiting the Vienna State Opera Ballet Museum, which is like a time capsule showcasing the history of dance in Vienna. There was everything from antique dance costumes and shoes to beautiful hand-drawn posters from past productions. They even had a stunning collection of tutus! Let me tell you, seeing those gorgeous tulle creations up close, some over a century old, was just magical. It really made me appreciate how much time, craftsmanship, and passion go into the creation of the perfect tutu.

And as any pink tutu enthusiast knows, history is nothing without an amazing Tutu Time Warp! This week, my historical research has taken me all the way back to the 1800s! In 1834, the ballet dancer, Marie Taglioni, completely changed the way we saw ballerinas, becoming the first woman to wear a white tutu that stopped above her knees. This revolutionary change was an absolute game changer for ballerinas and set the stage (pun intended!) for the evolution of the tutu!

So my dearest friends, Vienna is the perfect place to twirl your way into history, indulge in breathtaking dance performances, and appreciate the elegance of ballet and the stunning beauty of the tutu.

And of course, I’ve been living up to my "pink tutu" promise - my tutu wardrobe has been seeing some serious action these past few days. From a hot pink tutu for my horse-drawn carriage ride, to a pale pink, delicately beaded tutu for the ballet performance, my luggage is full of tutus ready for any occasion. You could say, it's a tutu-full itinerary!

Let's Talk Fashion

Now, I can't leave you without talking about the fashion scene in Vienna. It's absolutely blooming! From designer boutiques to vintage stores and markets, there’s something for everyone. I fell in love with a charming little boutique that specializes in handmade jewelry – the delicate craftsmanship and unique designs really blew me away! And you all know I can’t resist a vintage treasure! This week, I found the most delightful pink vintage hat that will perfectly compliment any tutu look, so look out for a future blog post showcasing my new accessory!

Speaking of future posts, don’t forget to check back next Wednesday for another adventure-filled Pink Tutu Vienna! I'm heading to the Vienna Zoo, hoping to catch some swans twirling gracefully on the lake! Until then, my darling pink-lovers, stay chic, stay twirly, and wear a pink tutu!

Yours, with all my twirls,

Emma xoxo
