#PinkTutuVienna: Vienna Whirlwind - Post 363! (17th April 2002)

Hello darlings!

It’s Wednesday, so it’s time for another #PinkTutuVienna post! I’m so excited to be sharing this week’s adventures with you – it's been a truly magical one, packed with romance, history, and a healthy dose of pink tulle, of course!

This week, I hopped aboard the Orient Express – my second ever journey on this iconic train, and a pure fairytale! The carriages were filled with so much elegance and history – the glamour was positively intoxicating. My pink tutu felt right at home! I imagine myself floating through the lavish compartments of old, wearing my pink tulle and sipping Champagne in the Grand Salon, right out of a Fitzgerald novel.

The Orient Express landed me in Vienna – oh, Vienna! My love affair with this city continues. There’s an effortless sophistication here that draws you in.

A Waltz with History:

I began my Austrian escapade with a dose of Viennese history. The Hofburg Palace – the former imperial residence of the Habsburgs – is absolutely breathtaking. Imagine those grand ballrooms! It felt like I had stepped back into a century of opulent royal dances. Every chandelier glittered with untold stories and the ballroom floors could easily have accommodated a grand ball.

I was fortunate enough to catch a glimpse of the Imperial Apartments, complete with ornate furnishings and breathtaking views of the city. I even managed to steal a peek at the Imperial Crown Jewels. Just the kind of historical splendour that sets a pink tutu’s heart aflutter.

Of course, no trip to Vienna would be complete without a visit to the Vienna State Opera. This theatre, a stunning example of Viennese architecture, is truly awe-inspiring. The rich red velvet seats, the delicate gold ornamentation and the air thick with anticipation – I could have stayed for days just gazing at the sheer beauty.

Ballet by the Danube:

My first night was truly spectacular! I indulged in an enchanting evening of ballet at the Vienna State Opera. The performance was simply sublime, featuring breathtaking choreography and a stellar cast. It was a perfect marriage of classicism and beauty, transporting me to another world. Every movement seemed to carry its own melody – a visual symphony. And let’s be honest, a pink tutu just seems to amplify the beauty of ballet!

And after the performance, Vienna transformed. It became a canvas painted with romance, alive with street performers and music flowing from every corner. A lively waltzing couple gracefully took to the square in front of the Opera, mirroring the magic I had just witnessed. They danced in the cool night air beneath the stars, and for a moment I could almost imagine the music of the orchestra playing on. The night was filled with such vibrant energy, it almost had me longing for my own pair of dancing shoes and the opportunity to take the stage!

Fashion Forward:

My pink tutu led me through the historic heart of the city, to a little gem – a boutique brimming with exquisite Viennese lace. Every piece felt like it was plucked straight from a Jane Austen novel – the delicacy, the sheer artistry. I fell in love with a delicate cream lace collar that would be the perfect addition to my next tutu ensemble. Just a touch of Viennese elegance!

Dinner, Dancing & More Dancing!

After a delectable dinner of traditional Wiener Schnitzel at a quaint cafe tucked away in a cobbled side street (of course I paired my schnitzel with a glass of sparkling rosé – life’s too short for just a boring glass of white!), my pink tutu and I joined the waltzing locals. I may not have been graceful like the real Viennese, but my tutu swirled and twirled along, enjoying every moment.

Vienna's Calling:

The city of Vienna is all about the joy of living and enjoying every moment. The cobblestone streets echo with the melodies of musicians, cafes brim with conversation and laughter, and the parks and gardens whisper with quiet romance. Vienna’s beauty is like a well-kept secret waiting to be discovered – a secret that is worth sharing. I already know I will be back here in a pink tutu soon!

So, until next week, remember – wear your pink tutu, embrace every moment, and don’t be afraid to dance to your own rhythm!

P.S. Keep your eyes peeled for my new pink tutu creation next week!

With love and a swish of tulle,
