Vienna: Waltz, Whirl, and Pink Tutus - Blog Post #394

Hello my darling readers!

It's Wednesday, which means it's time for another adventure from your favourite pink tutu-clad traveller. This week I've waltzed my way into Vienna, the city of music, charm, and yes, even more pink tutus than you can shake a stick at! (Although I would never dream of shaking a stick in such a beautiful place).

The journey itself was an experience! I left Derbyshire on Saturday, my ballet bag and several changes of tutus carefully packed. The train ride was a leisurely delight. It gave me time to relax and catch up on some reading - this time a book on the history of the tutu! It was fascinating to discover how these iconic garments evolved, from their simple beginnings as just a layer of fabric under the dress, to the stunningly elaborate and ethereal creations they are today.

Speaking of evolving, so am I! Since starting the Pink Tutu project, my life has taken a few surprising twists and turns. Never would I have thought that I'd be funding my travels with performances – especially when they involve tutus! However, people are so drawn to the joy and fun it brings, I've been lucky enough to be able to travel to some truly amazing places.

And this brings us back to Vienna! I've been in Austria for a couple of days now, and I am already smitten. This city oozes elegance and history. The buildings are so grand, with intricate details and breathtaking facades. I've already been taking in some of the sights, including the breathtaking Schönbrunn Palace – it reminded me so much of the sets I used to create in the school hall! And then there are the parks, with the horse-drawn carriages and people enjoying their coffee, it’s so magical.

Speaking of magical, today I am planning on doing a ballet class in the Vienna State Opera House! They have classes open to the public on Wednesdays, and I wouldn’t miss it for the world. Can you imagine the grandeur of that venue, combined with the sheer joy of movement?

Tonight, though, is all about a spectacular theatre performance! Vienna, being the home of music, has so much to offer on the arts front. Tonight's performance is going to be something truly special, a Viennese operetta at the famous Theater an der Wien. Of course, I’ll be wearing my newest pink tutu – it has the most stunning feather details and a delicate silver ribbon, perfect for twirling! I am hoping for a beautiful evening of enchanting music, dramatic costumes, and exquisite dancing. I just can’t wait to share some photos of it with you tomorrow.

Before I dash off, I wanted to share my biggest Vienna tip! If you’re looking for a truly unique and wonderful souvenir, be sure to visit one of Vienna’s traditional costume shops. You’ll find an incredible range of Viennese costumes, complete with delicate embroidery and lavish lace, perfect for an enchanting waltz.

So, darling readers, what is on your schedule this week? Are you planning on attending any dance performances, trying a new ballet move, or perhaps simply admiring the art of dance? Whatever you are up to, I hope you have a wonderful week filled with joy, elegance and, of course, a touch of pink!

Stay pink and twirl on, Emma
