Vienna Whirlwind: Post 427

Hello my darling darlings,

It's Wednesday again, and I'm back from a glorious adventure in Vienna, the city of waltz and wonders! I've had such a whirlwind of a time exploring the enchanting streets, marveling at the architecture, and of course, immersing myself in the vibrant ballet scene.

I'm posting live from my favourite cafe overlooking the Vienna State Opera - the most magnificent building, with an exquisite history! This is actually where my first love affair with tutus really began. While watching Swan Lake on this very stage, I realised I wasn't just enthralled by the graceful dance - I was mesmerised by the flowing layers of the tutus, the shimmering tulle, the way they twirled with every movement! I knew then, right then and there, that tutus would be my life's passion!

Vienna truly embraces the elegant side of life - a perfect fit for this pink-loving ballerina, wouldn't you say? The moment I stepped off the train (after a fabulously romantic ride through the countryside, I might add!), I was enveloped in the city's charm. Everything seemed so grand and graceful, from the magnificent palaces to the beautiful cobbled streets.

Now, you know I can't resist a good shopping trip. My first stop, of course, was a boutique overflowing with luxurious lace, silk and… drum roll ...tutut-tiful fabrics! Can you even imagine the designs swirling around in my head right now? I just know the latest pink tutu I'm creating will be perfect for a Vienna ballet performance.

The Viennese fashion scene is a treat for the eyes, too, from elegant boutiques to chic vintage shops. I discovered some truly delightful finds! You know how much I love colour, and Vienna didn't disappoint. The colourful floral patterns and charming traditional clothing shops simply charmed me. And I can’t resist an outfit or two for the show later. I have my eyes set on the most divine floral print, perfect for a vintage, girly-chic style. My love for fashion is a big part of why I travel.

Now, I know what you're thinking. You want to hear all about the ballet, don't you? Well, let me tell you, my darlings, I witnessed some truly extraordinary performances during my stay in Vienna! This past weekend was an explosion of art, passion, and sheer talent - it was perfection!

Firstly, a performance of The Sleeping Beauty. I'm never one for fairy tales, but there’s something magical about Sleeping Beauty. The artistry, the costume, the set…it transported me back to childhood. The music? I was in tears, it was so moving! The story was brought to life right before my eyes. And the finale - pure enchantment! I’ll be sharing more on The Sleeping Beauty in my next blog post.

I also saw a beautiful performance by the Vienna State Opera Ballet, with its focus on precision and elegance. My heart skipped a beat when the lead ballerina made her grand entrance in a classic pink tutu - absolutely stunning. You wouldn't believe the detail on it. I'm sure I could write an entire blog post just about the craftsmanship!

After each show, the perfect ending was exploring the charming local cafés with a cup of Viennese coffee - so divine. There's just something magical about a cup of coffee amidst the gentle hum of conversation and the faint scent of pastry, a perfect ending to a long day at the theatre.

On the subject of Vienna’s delicacies, the cafes are truly a delight, a must-see for any sweet tooth. If I'm being honest, Vienna's decadent pastries might be vying with tutus for my favourite things in life.

And, speaking of Vienna's sweet side, what a better place to try out my latest baking adventures? I'm finally going to conquer the perfect Sachertorte recipe - fingers crossed! The cake is so iconic, isn't it? Maybe you'll see it as a picture on my blog next week?

Now, I simply cannot forget about the heart of Vienna. Yes, my darlings, the Hofburg Palace is an architectural masterpiece! This historic treasure holds an enormous place in Viennese history, and just wandering the beautiful gardens, gazing at the grandeur of it all – breathtaking!

But that’s not all. The Hofburg Palace also housed the Museum of Imperial Apartments. Did you know, the imperial court in Vienna housed a stunning wardrobe, overflowing with exquisite dresses and finery for generations of Emperors and Empresses! It was like stepping into a time machine. It just fueled my passion for history and, naturally, the history of fashion and tutus!

My Vienna trip, my darlings, has been truly inspiring. From the incredible art and architecture to the vibrant culture and the most charming cafes, it has left an imprint on my heart that will forever remind me of its beauty. But it's not just about the places; it's also about the people - the friendly smiles, the lively atmosphere, and the feeling of belonging in a truly magnificent city.

Of course, as I write this, my mind races with all the fabulous memories - waltzing under the starry sky at Schönbrunn Palace, exploring the vibrant markets, the incredible music festivals and even the joy of taking a traditional Viennese horse-drawn carriage ride through the city center! I even took a ride in a beautifully restored traditional fiacre! A bit like an elegant, romantic, carriage of dreams.

Vienna, you've stolen a little piece of my heart! Until next time, darlings!

With a flurry of tutus,

Emma xxx
