Vienna Waltz: Pink Tutu in the City of Dreams! 🩰

#459 - Vienna, Austria - Wednesday, 18th February 2004

Oh, my darlings, what a week it has been! My pink tutu has had quite the adventure in Vienna, a city of such elegance and magic, it's like a scene straight from a fairytale! You know, darling, how I always say, "life's a stage" – and well, this city, Vienna, is certainly one grand stage, bursting with the energy of history, culture, and art, just like a beautiful ballet production!

Now, let's talk trains! Who wouldn't be giddy with delight at the sheer thrill of hurtling through the heart of Europe, my darling? I must say, I quite fancy myself as a proper modern-day train traveler, embracing the freedom and charm of the tracks. From Derbyshire, I set off, leaving my lovely little corner of the world behind, with the promise of Vienna's delights and ballet glories whispering in my ear. I mean, just imagine! A journey punctuated by fields of snow-capped mountains and winding river valleys - I truly believe a train is the perfect romantic escape, and Vienna, oh, Vienna, was absolutely calling to me.

First Steps in the Waltz Capital:

The moment my wheels stopped, and I stepped off the platform onto Viennese soil, I felt it – a different rhythm in the air. It’s like the very streets hummed with waltzes and opera tunes! And yes, you've guessed it - pink tutus are, of course, an absolute must! My Vienna arrival was met with the warm and charming staff of the Hotel Sacher, the most magnificent hotel in the heart of Vienna, where every corner echoes with the stories of famous guests, from ballet legends like Rudolf Nureyev to emperors and empresses! It felt like stepping into a bygone era – and of course, with a little spin of my tutu, I immediately set about adding my own whimsical touch to its timeless elegance!

The Ballet Whisperer:

And oh my darlings, Vienna's ballet scene, the absolute best! I had the most wonderful encounter with an elderly, yet oh so chic lady, in a coffee shop. Now, this lady was something else – her posture perfect, her elegance exquisite. And in the blink of an eye, she became my confidante and ballet whisperer! She shared fascinating stories of Viennese ballet legends – about how they moved, how they felt the music. Just as she poured me a cup of Viennese coffee (I can’t go a day without my little pick-me-up!), she shared the best kept ballet secrets of this fabulous city – which show to see, which steps to watch out for! The joy!

Vienna State Opera:

There was simply no way I could be in Vienna without a visit to the Vienna State Opera. The grandeur, the history, the artistry – it left me quite speechless! I felt like a child stepping into a dreamscape, full of beauty, music and, oh, how can I not mention the costumes! A grand old house, oozing character and filled with those intricate balconies I’d seen in so many books and movies, my darling. It really was an extraordinary performance. They've preserved history here with so much love and detail, every little corner was perfect.

Fashion in Vienna:

Now, dear readers, you know how much I adore fashion! It's a symphony of color, cut, and, yes, even tutus! The shops here, oh my! A delightful tapestry of Parisian chic and a hint of Austrian tradition! Vienna embraces style with open arms, whether you’re seeking the latest designer wear, or, dare I say, perhaps some gorgeous pink tutu embellishments to enhance your own unique flair? The Vienna stores are a whirlwind of fashion, and let me tell you, it's easy to lose track of time amidst all those charming little boutiques and the decadent shops on Graben!

Pink Tutu & Horses:

But what's a Viennese adventure without a touch of whimsy and romance? My lovely time in Vienna included a delightful ride through the sprawling Prater, a Viennese park where I had the sheer joy of being guided through lush gardens and tranquil waterways, on horseback, wearing, of course, my gorgeous pink tutu. What a lovely time, darling, it truly was! And just imagine, for those perfect Vienna photos, a pink tutu twirling in a carriage pulled by beautiful white horses. It’s a vision, simply magical.

Food, Coffee and Cake

Of course, no trip to Vienna is complete without savoring its legendary food! The cafes! The strudel! The Sachertorte! (Honestly, darling, the pastries alone would have made the journey worthwhile! ) Every corner was overflowing with delectable pastries and melt-in-your-mouth sweet treats. It’s the ultimate indulgence. I particularly adore a slice of classic apple strudel, dusted with icing sugar - perfect after an exhilarating afternoon exploring the streets! And coffee, darling, the Vienna coffee! It is truly a divine nectar, something that should be experienced, not just read about!

Next week, I'll be waltzing my way through Budapest!

Now, darling, as I sip my coffee, I can’t wait to share next week’s exciting adventure in the dazzling city of Budapest, my dear. Until then, keep those tutus twirling, and let's remember to add a little sparkle to everyday life, darling!

With lots of love and twirls,

Emma x
