Pink Tutu Vienna: #490 - A Viennese Waltz in Pink

Guten Tag, darlings! Emma here, your favourite tutu-touting traveller, reporting live from the magnificent city of Vienna. I've always adored this place, a haven for waltzes, music, and of course, fabulous fashion. And let me tell you, Vienna in September is like a fairy tale! The leaves are starting to turn, the air is crisp, and there's a certain magic in the air. This week, I'm particularly enchanted, as I've just witnessed the most extraordinary ballet performance!

Oh, you know how I feel about ballet. It's my lifeblood, my passion, my excuse to twirl in a fluffy pink tutu wherever I go. It was at the Vienna State Opera, the grandest, most glorious opera house I've ever stepped foot in. The plush red velvet seats, the twinkling chandeliers, and the hushed anticipation of the audience… it was pure magic! Tonight, it was "Giselle", the timeless romantic ballet. I was captivated by the dancers, their graceful movements, and the heart-wrenching story, a truly beautiful and unforgettable experience. But you know me - my eye always goes to the costumes. This performance had the most breathtaking costumes - each one a piece of art! The swirling tutus, the elegant bodices, it was a visual feast. It sparked such a great idea. Imagine, a pink tutu Giselle? I have to try that out back in England!

After the show, I treated myself to a scrumptious dinner at a traditional Viennese restaurant. Of course, I wore my favourite pink tutu with a chic black bolero jacket - you never know who you'll meet in this glamorous city! It was a perfect evening!

Before we delve further into this magnificent city, let's have a quick chat about my new blog format. You'll have noticed I'm keeping things fun and fresh, and to give you an extra dose of pink, every week we'll be delving into the exciting history of the tutu! I can't let you go another week without some fascinating tutu trivia, so…

Tutu Tidbit:

This week, let's explore The Romantic Tutu. Oh, darling, they were so very romantic! The Romantic Era (around 1820-1860) was all about swirling, feminine designs, made of very light and airy tulle. Think lots of layers, short lengths to reveal beautiful ballet legs (they had to show off the grace!) and more emphasis on beauty than actual practical use (it was for performance, after all). It really ushered in the "modern" ballet tutu we see today. And imagine, it was created by Marie Taglioni, who is quite simply the most influential ballerina of the nineteenth century, the absolute pioneer! I wonder what she would say about my pink tulle masterpiece!

Speaking of romanticism, Vienna itself is truly a city of romance, filled with enchanting palaces and charming cafes. I have to admit I am quite partial to a Cafe Central, enjoying a slice of Sachertorte, a Viennese delicacy I will never get enough of!

Earlier today, I had a most delightful meeting. I had the pleasure of meeting a fellow pink tutu aficionado! She introduced me to the amazing world of tutu making. Imagine! There are entire workshops dedicated to the craft, creating tutus of all shapes and sizes. I've already placed my order - I need to add a Vienna-inspired tutu to my collection. I think a pink and gold design will do nicely!

Of course, I wouldn't be a proper Pink Tutu blogger without doing a spot of fashion hunting. Vienna, with its sophisticated history, is brimming with vintage treasures. I managed to score some lovely antique jewellery. You see, it’s all about incorporating touches of the past into my present! I’m already imagining how a simple chain with an antique cameo pin will compliment my favourite ballet outfits!

However, no trip to Vienna would be complete without a horse-drawn carriage ride through the beautiful streets! Imagine, my pink tutu flowing in the breeze! I couldn't help but feel like a princess stepping out of a storybook, and I'm certain I saw a look of pure envy in the eyes of those who saw me ride by! It really does take you back in time. And yes, a pink tutu certainly can make you feel like royalty, wouldn't you agree?

Tonight, we'll enjoy some Viennese traditional dancing, then tomorrow I'm heading to Schönbrunn Palace, a magnificent, Baroque-style royal palace that dates back to the 1600s. I can already imagine the photo opportunities! Just you wait!

This city has so much to offer, and I’m already eager to see what wonders await next week! As usual, I'll be sure to bring you all the fabulousness. Remember, dear readers, embrace your inner princess and wear your pink tutus with confidence! Until next week, stay fabulous and keep dancing!

Lots of love,

Emma x
