Pink Tutu Vienna: Post #557 - From Derbyshire to Donau, a Ballet Bonanza in Vienna!

Well, darlings, grab a cuppa and settle in because this week’s blog is going to be a veritable whirl of Viennese delights! As you know, this Pink Tutu gal is a huge fan of the grand, and there’s nothing quite like the grandeur of Vienna.

Let me paint you a picture… Imagine cobblestone streets, imperial palaces shimmering with gold, the melodious sounds of Strauss waltzes drifting through the air… and amidst it all, a bright pink tutu twirling in the sunshine. That, my dears, is me in Vienna!

I travelled here via the glorious train from Innsbruck (which, let’s be honest, is an entire blog post on its own!). It was a beautiful journey, with stunning views of snow-capped mountains and sprawling meadows. But even with all the scenic delights, nothing could have prepared me for the sheer beauty of Vienna.

And speaking of beautiful, today’s post is about ballet, of course! What else could a girl with a penchant for pink tulle dream of but a ballet adventure? And Vienna, well, it’s a city bursting at the seams with balletic brilliance.

Firstly, I’m at the Staatsoper! It’s the grand opera house, a monument to artistic glory. I practically skipped up the stairs, I was so excited. They were holding a New Year's Concert, a classical extravaganza that brought tears to my eyes. You wouldn’t believe the music, the costumes, the sheer majesty of the dancers! And even the lobby, decked out in velvet and gold, felt like a step back into a fairytale.

But you know me, darlings! One ballet show is never enough. This weekend, I’m going to be taking a class at the Wiener Staatsoper Ballet School! It’s the most prestigious ballet school in Austria and to think I’m going to be twirling amongst their young dancers? I can barely contain my excitement. Maybe I'll finally get my own tutu history class in. You wouldn't believe what happened to the costumes after a 1934 ballet, now, I saw it in a little shop, I knew it was real. That tutu was at the centre of some political shenanigans, I just couldn't believe it. They keep the old tuts for history lessons but in my little pink tutu I'm not going to get away with anything naughty like the 1934 tutu.

As if all this weren’t enough, I have my eye on an exhibition at the Albertina called "Tutu: Fashioning Dance". Imagine, a whole exhibit dedicated to the fabulous history of tutus, from the earliest designs to the modern marvels! My heart’s beating just thinking about it!

But Vienna is not just about ballets and museums, darling! The city is buzzing with life, from its chic shops overflowing with the latest designs to its cosy cafes serving up steaming cups of Viennese coffee. I’ve been trying on the latest trends at Vienna's grand boutiques. I must say, they are seriously good in the city! I even found myself an utterly adorable pink lace coat, and a delightful pair of champagne-coloured gloves! My love for shopping and fashion is simply too much to contain!

This trip has truly been a dream come true. And my dears, trust me, it’s just the beginning! Next week, I’m heading off to explore more of this breathtaking city. Think palaces, parks, and perhaps even a horseback ride in Schönbrunn Palace gardens. You never know, I might even find some inspiration for a new dance routine. After all, what better way to explore Vienna than to twirl your way through it?

Until next Wednesday,

Your Pink Tutu gal, Emma
