Pink Tutu Vienna - Post 605 - Wednesday 6th December, 2006

Dearest Tutu-licious readers,

It’s Wednesday, which means it’s time for another exciting update from my fabulous adventures in Vienna! Oh my, where to begin? It feels like a whirlwind of swirling tutus and tinkling bells!

Let's just say Vienna has well and truly stolen my heart with its stunning architecture, the air buzzing with waltz rhythms, and the endless rows of glittering shops – it’s practically a fairytale! This week, I found myself lost in the wonderland of the Hofburg Palace, the grandeur and history just spilling out of every cobbled street corner. I even stumbled upon the Spanish Riding School, a true haven for horse-loving ballerinas like myself!

The first thing I do whenever I arrive in a new city is explore its ballet scene – a girl's gotta stay true to her roots, right? Vienna, my lovelies, did not disappoint! Last night, I twirled my way through the ornate doors of the Vienna State Opera House, utterly mesmerized by a performance of Tchaikovsky's Swan Lake. I’m not going to lie, there were tears in my eyes – not just because of the sheer beauty of the performance, but also because I'd forgotten just how much a simple tutus can mean to me.

Speaking of tutus, the city has truly spoiled me! I've found an entire collection of vintage tutus tucked away in a tiny little shop down a cobblestoned lane – I must share the details later. I’ve been eyeing a gorgeous blush-pink creation that wouldn’t look out of place in Swan Lake itself. You’ll just have to wait and see!

Speaking of fashion, you won’t believe the outfit I picked up for the opera! A chic black floor-length dress with a delicate, almost translucent, black lace overlay – perfectly channeling that graceful, ethereal ballerina aesthetic. Of course, I topped it all off with a touch of my signature colour, adding a whisper of pink to my clutch and my delicate chain earrings. Just a little dash of 'Emma-ness' to remind the world of my unique pink-hued presence!

I must tell you all about the delicious meal I enjoyed at a tiny little Viennese cafe, just off the Ringstraße. Wiener Schnitzel, Apfelstrudel, and a pot of aromatic coffee. This cafe was something straight out of a painting! Think beautiful ornate walls, candlelit corners, and a waiter who was dressed in a traditional, pristine white waiter’s coat – quite charming!

And let's not forget about the city's cultural offerings! From the awe-inspiring Museum of Art History, filled with masterpieces, to the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra – this city truly offers something for every taste. Even a humble tutu-clad ballerina like myself can get lost in the beauty of Vienna's artistic soul.

As I’m writing this, I’m sat in my little hotel room, surrounded by vintage lace trims and silk scraps that I picked up from the little shop. It's incredible the inspiration I find even in the smallest details! It just goes to show you, the world is full of magic, and you just have to open your eyes and heart to find it. Don't forget to do just that, my lovely readers.

The next stop on my ballet-filled adventure is Salzburg, the birth place of Mozart! Just picturing that enchanting, fairytale city has me dancing with anticipation!

Until then, stay glamorous and keep those tutus twirling,

Your Pink Tutu Queen,

Emma

P.S. Have I mentioned how much I love travelling by train? Something about the gentle rumble and the views whizzing by just fills me with an inner peace. There's just something magical about the feeling of leaving everything behind, a sense of freedom and excitement about the adventures that lie ahead. I’m going to be riding the train for much of the journey to Salzburg, so if you’re out and about in Austria and spot a lady in a pink tutu with a giant, bright pink suitcase, that’s me! Do come and say hello, I'm always up for a chat!
