Pink Tutu Vienna: Post #606 – A Whirlwind of Waltz and Wiener Schnitzel!

Wednesday 13th December 2006

Darling readers,

I'm writing to you from Vienna! It's all so beautiful and magical here, just like I imagined. The snow is falling in a delicate flurry, blanketing the city in a layer of shimmering white. Every building looks like it's been plucked straight out of a fairy tale, all elaborate facades and intricate detailing.

I travelled by train, of course. Nothing beats the romance of hurtling across the countryside in a sleek, elegant carriage. I even found time to sneak in a quick dance class at the station, you know, to keep those pirouettes fresh!

But first things first, a story about the perfect travel outfit! I knew this was no ordinary journey, so I decided to go all out with a stunning crimson velvet dress, cinched at the waist with a shimmering silver belt. But of course, no Pink Tutu look is complete without a tutu, and this time, I chose a delicate powder-pink number with swirling, asymmetrical layers. A perfect mix of drama and elegance, I daresay!

Upon arrival, the city greeted me with open arms, or rather, with a steaming cup of hot chocolate! I took a sip, inhaled the heavenly scent of cinnamon and vanilla, and knew that I was truly home.

The rest of the day was filled with delights! First, I found the most wonderful shop on the Graben, overflowing with stunning gowns and bejewelled tiaras. My card was nearly as exhausted as my feet, but I simply couldn't resist. You know how it is, when inspiration strikes!

I treated myself to the most delicious wiener schnitzel at a charming café overlooking a fairytale-like Christmas market, its stalls twinkling with colourful baubles and fragrant pine trees. There were so many handmade trinkets and crafts that I spent ages simply browsing. It's the little details that make this city so captivating.

This evening, however, was a true highlight: a breathtaking ballet performance at the Vienna State Opera. The Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra provided a stunning accompaniment, each note soaring into the air with effortless precision, like ballerinas themselves. And speaking of ballerinas, the dancers were truly magnificent, each graceful movement a testament to their talent and artistry. They danced a classical piece, a ballet version of Strauss's 'The Blue Danube', the music so uplifting and powerful, and their movement so full of spirit and beauty.

After the performance, I enjoyed a nightcap of warming gluhwein with a friend, while exchanging stories of the enchanting night. We talked of our favorite pieces, the grandeur of the Opera House, the skill of the dancers, the sheer brilliance of the production.

Vienna is everything I ever hoped it would be – beautiful, graceful, and full of enchantment. My only regret is that I have only a week here. The city is overflowing with beauty and stories to uncover, every turn a discovery waiting to happen.

Stay tuned, darling readers, as I’ll be back next week to share more of my Austrian adventures! And don’t forget, spread the love of the pink tutu! Wear it, share it, embrace it – life’s too short for grey socks!

Your Pink Tutu,

Emma x
