Pink Tutu Vienna - Post #649 - 10th October 2007
Oh Vienna, you're making my tutu twirl!
Well, hello darlings! It's Emma, your resident pink tutu-wearing ballerina, writing to you live from Vienna, Austria. I simply had to share the joys of this fabulous city with you, from its cobbled streets to the dreamy ballet performances and, of course, the glorious fashion!
This week's adventure began with a train ride across the Austrian countryside. Yes, you heard me right, darling! I traded my trusty tutu for a chic linen dress and ventured aboard a classic carriage train. Such an enchanting way to travel, with its plush seats and window views fit for a princess. I even spied a sweet little meadow of daisies - I imagine that's where they get all those fabulous floral prints in Vienna, don't you?
Speaking of fashion, Vienna is a veritable playground for any sartorial soul! My first stop, as always, was a fabulous vintage boutique on Graben. I snagged the most exquisite powder-pink brocade jacket, with delicate rosettes and just a hint of sparkle. Perfect for my evening out at the Vienna State Opera! The show, "Swan Lake", was just breathtaking. My darling, the swans, oh the swans! Each graceful movement, each delicate pirouette - pure ballet bliss!
After the performance, we had a divine dinner at a quaint little cafe by the Opera House. I treated myself to a generous helping of Viennese apple strudel, oh my, simply divine! And of course, a glass of something bubbly – a necessary reward after such a stunning ballet experience!
The following day, my little pink heart was captivated by the Hofburg Palace. I must say, it lived up to all the fairytale expectations! Golden staircases, sprawling gardens, and oh, the costumes! They were just like those you see in the grandest ballets – shimmering satins, extravagant feathers, and of course, my favourite colour: pink! You simply can't have a royal court without a touch of pink, darling.
Now, if you think my travels end there, you'd be quite mistaken. On Sunday, I embraced the true spirit of Vienna and joined a Horse-drawn carriage ride through the city. Think swirling tulle skirts, a gentle clopping of hooves, and sunshine streaming through the ancient architecture - pure enchantment! My dear, this was truly a ballet performance in itself, don't you think? The way the horse moved with such grace, his chestnut mane flowing in the wind…well, it inspired me to whip up a new dance routine. I think I'll call it the "Viennese Gallop" – imagine, graceful steps paired with that delightful carriage ride rhythm!
Now, on to the matter close to all our hearts: the ballet world, darling. This week's highlight? Attending a gala performance by the Vienna State Ballet, the pinnacle of Viennese ballet. Their talent, their dedication - absolutely sublime!
This, however, wasn't all. My exploration took me to the Vienna State Opera Library, where I was quite captivated by their collection of rare ballet manuscripts and books. It was like stepping back in time, tracing the history of tutus and dancing, discovering tales of grand ballets past and pondering the stories they whispered to us across the years.
Now, the biggest news of the week is… yes, you guessed it – my new tutu collection is complete! I stumbled upon a charming little atelier tucked away in the heart of Vienna, bursting with silks, tulle, and exquisite details. After a day spent creating my dream tutus, my suitcase is bursting with pink! And oh, darlings, one of them has the most delicate pearl accents – I think it deserves its own Instagram post, wouldn't you agree?
But Vienna isn't all grand ballets, lavish shops, and fairytale horses, you see. It's also filled with charming cafés, street musicians playing waltzes, and people with an undeniable joie de vivre. And to that, I raise my pink champagne, darling, because that's something we can all celebrate!
I'll leave you with this, my dears – Vienna has swept me off my dancing shoes, its charm as intoxicating as its strudel. I hope to bring a little bit of this city's magic back with me to England, for your next dose of Pink Tutu fun. Until then, remember, a tutu can take you anywhere, even to the heart of Vienna. And darling, don't be afraid to twirl!
Love, Emma
P.S. Remember to keep your eyes peeled for new Pink Tutu content! I'm launching a new series of tutorials next week – teaching you how to design and sew your own pink tutu. So gather your sequins, your needles, and your favourite shade of pink – because a world filled with pink tutus is a world worth dancing in!
