Well, hello there, darlings! It’s your favourite tutu-wearing traveller, Emma, back from the beautiful city of Vienna, Austria, for my weekly dose of fashion, frolics and fabulousness!
This week, it’s all about Vienna, my darlings, oh, Vienna! It's truly a fairytale city, steeped in history and beauty, with enough elegant architecture to make any fashionista swoon! Just picturing all the waltzes that have happened on those stunning cobblestones, swirling and twirling like my own graceful steps... sighs dreamily
And you know me, darling! Wherever I go, I've gotta bring a little sparkle! I landed in Vienna wearing a perfectly pink tulle tutu (my latest design!), paired with a chic cream cashmere cardigan. I mean, even in Vienna, a girl’s got to stay warm, but don't think for a moment I’m not ready to burst into a spontaneous waltz at a moment’s notice!
The journey, as always, was delightful. I hopped aboard the Orient Express, a true icon of glamorous travel! You wouldn't believe the divine decor, reminiscent of an extravagant theatre set – rich fabrics, carved wood panelling, and twinkling chandeliers – all in those dreamy shades of cream and pink that you know I adore. The trip was pure joy! It felt like stepping into one of my favourite novels about 1920s glamour. (Now, I must share that one secret with you, darlings – I also made my way from Derbyshire, my little corner of England, to the Austrian border on a horse, but that's another story for another day. Let’s just say that horse riding in my pink tutu was... memorable, shall we say?).
Speaking of tutus, Vienna seems to be the place to go to immerse oneself in history – not just any history, but ballet history! I managed to get tickets to the most splendid ballet performance at the Vienna State Opera – a production of "The Nutcracker", but not just any Nutcracker, darling! This one featured the most exquisite costumes, including the most gorgeous tutus I've ever seen. The colours were breathtaking – an array of rich blues, pinks, and reds that were truly inspirational. The ballet was absolutely mesmerising! I spent the whole show, mesmerised by the graceful movements, the intricate choreography, and those exquisite tutus – the history of this form of dance just felt so palpable in the air.
And speaking of ballet, did you know Vienna has some incredible ballet schools? I was lucky enough to have a private lesson from the legendary Madame Antoinette at the Wiener Staatsballet. It was an absolute privilege to learn from her. She’s just as lovely and graceful as she was when I watched her perform as a child! We even talked about the origins of tutus – you'd be surprised how much I learned. It's a history of dance, fabrics, and female expression – a captivating tale of artistry!
Of course, it wouldn't be a trip to Vienna without a little indulging in the fabulous fashion scene. You wouldn't believe the exquisite shops on Kärntner Strasse! I found the most divine pink cashmere shawl – oh my! I just can’t resist the softness and the elegant shade of pink that perfectly complemented my tutu. And let's not forget about the shoes – my wardrobe needed a touch of Vienna’s classic elegance, so I treated myself to some beautifully crafted, handcrafted, bespoke boots with the perfect blush pink lining. And how about a fabulous statement hat – in an incredibly elegant shade of pink! The locals seemed very curious about my pink tutu – many of them looked intrigued!
But even with all this shopping, darling, it's Vienna’s captivating history that really steals my heart. We explored the beautiful palaces and museums, soaked in the city’s grand aura, and of course, spent time soaking up the scenery along the banks of the Danube. Vienna, oh, Vienna, how you charm and enchant me with your romance and captivating atmosphere!
I know what you’re thinking – where on earth did I fit all this fabulousness into one week? Well, let's just say that I always seem to have a little extra magic in my ballet bag. My ballet performances, darling, help fund these extravagant escapades! But it's not just the glamorous life; it’s about sharing my passion for all things pink, all things elegant, and especially all things tutu.
