Vienna, Oh Vienna! (Post #658)

Good Wednesday, my lovely tutu-lovers!

It's me, Emma, back from another fabulous adventure. This week I've landed in the beautiful, waltz-filled city of Vienna, and let me tell you, it's a dream for a tutu-obsessed girl like me!

The moment I stepped off the train, the city welcomed me with open arms (and open cafes). The air smelled of warm strudel and gingerbread, and I swear, I could practically hear the gentle strains of the "Blue Danube" waltz floating through the crisp December air.

As soon as I checked into my hotel, I did what any self-respecting pink tutu devotee would do: I pulled out my most elegant pink tutu, a gorgeous fluffy confection, and twirled my way through the streets, feeling like a whimsical fairy amidst the charming Viennese architecture. I know what you're thinking, "But Emma, a tutu in the cold?!" Let me tell you, a tutu is just as magical in winter. Add a cozy cashmere cardigan, a cute hat, and a pair of fabulous boots and you're good to go. Besides, my pink tutu always makes the world a more joyful place, and Vienna, with its rich cultural heritage, needs a touch of pink!

Of course, Vienna is the ultimate ballet city, so my first stop was the majestic Vienna State Opera House. Stepping into the building felt like walking into a page of history. This architectural gem has been showcasing the best of ballet since the 18th century. You wouldn't believe the beautiful costumes and intricate sets - truly awe-inspiring!

Before I even got inside the opera house, I stumbled upon the most exquisite little ballet shop. You won't believe the tutus they have! Imagine soft, floaty silk, delicate hand-stitching, and just a touch of glitter. Heaven, I tell you! Of course, I couldn't resist adding a little Viennese charm to my tutu wardrobe, so I came home with a delicate silk pink tutu adorned with silver Austrian embroidery. Now that's a memory I'll treasure!

Speaking of history, did you know that the tutu itself has a fascinating history? From the early "romantic" tutus of the 19th century with their long flowing skirts, to the tighter, more structured "classic" tutus popular today, each era has left its unique mark on the evolution of the tutu. If you want to learn more, be sure to check out my upcoming post dedicated to the fascinating history of the tutu. (And no, I'm not kidding when I say, I dedicate entire blog posts to the wonderful history of tutus!)

This weekend is all about embracing the ballet lifestyle. I've already got tickets to see the "Nutcracker" ballet at the Vienna State Opera. I can't wait to experience this holiday classic performed in a venue that's so steeped in ballet tradition.

And then there are the cafes, the cobbled streets, and of course, the fashion! Vienna's fashion scene is sophisticated, a perfect blend of modern and vintage, with an undeniably elegant flair. I can't wait to explore the charming boutiques, perhaps discover some gorgeous new ballet flats, or maybe a fabulous pink scarf.

You know me, I can't travel without finding some delicious pastries to go with my afternoon tea. Vienna is known for its wonderful cafes and their signature Sachertorte, a delectable chocolate cake with a delicious apricot jam filling. So you know what that means? I'll be sharing a few pictures of my pink tutu with a Sachertorte (with an extra slice of whipped cream, just for you!)

After all, isn't it wonderful to be able to travel the world in the ultimate symbol of grace, beauty, and femininity โ€“ a pink tutu? It makes me feel like anything is possible!

Stay tuned for more adventures from Vienna next week, my dears!

Love,

Emma
xx

P.S. Have any of you ever been to Vienna? What are your favourite places to visit? I'd love to hear your recommendations!

P.P.S. Did you know that there are a variety of ballet classes and studios in Vienna? Maybe I'll try out a few and let you know my favourites!
