Vienna Waltz - Post Number 662

Wednesday, 9th January 2008

Oh darling, Vienna! What a truly enchanting city. I've arrived by train, of course - there's just something about the rhythm of the rails that sets my heart aflutter. Plus, the view from the carriage window of the Austrian countryside whizzing past was just breathtaking, all snow-capped mountains and sleepy villages. I swear, my new pink tutu positively twirled in excitement.

The train arrived in Vienna's grand Hauptbahnhof, a symphony of Art Nouveau architecture that made me feel like I was stepping back in time. I have to say, my dear readers, this city truly is a fairytale. The architecture, the history, the delicious Viennese pastries... swoon. It's just magical!

Speaking of magic, I couldn't resist popping into a vintage shop in the first charming side street I encountered. This little treasure trove was full of amazing old ballet books, vintage costume sketches, and even some exquisite ballet shoes, perfect for a vintage-inspired dance performance! Imagine, me twirling across a stage in these beauties, bathed in soft pink lights. The crowd would be mesmerised!

As the afternoon wore on, I decided to take a little spin on one of Vienna's famous horse-drawn carriages. What a charming way to explore! The horse was absolutely beautiful, and his hooves gently clopped along the cobblestones, giving the carriage a lovely rhythmic sway that I absolutely adored.

After a spot of tea and strudel at a cosy cafe, it was time for my ultimate treat: a performance at the Vienna State Opera House! My heart fluttered with excitement as I walked through the imposing doors, marveling at the incredible grandiosity of the venue.

Tonight's programme featured "The Sleeping Beauty" by Tchaikovsky, and let me tell you, it was a magical experience! The costumes were exquisite, the music divine, and the dancers… oh, the dancers! They glided effortlessly across the stage, making it seem as though they were floating on air.

After the performance, I went back to my hotel and had a blissful, dreamy night's sleep. This whole trip has been such a beautiful whirlwind, and I feel like I've only just scratched the surface of what Vienna has to offer.

But, what do you think my dear readers? Should I go and try a "Wiener Schnitzel" tomorrow? It's a true Viennese delicacy, but I’m feeling slightly concerned it may not be particularly ballerina-friendly. Any tips?

Anyway, my adventures in Vienna will continue for another few days. And you, my sweet readers, can follow them here every Wednesday on my little corner of the internet!

I simply cannot wait to see where the rest of my adventures take me - Vienna's got me hooked!

Until next week, may your hearts be filled with the joy of dancing, the elegance of pink tutus, and the exquisite wonder of travel!

Love,

Emma
