Pink Tutu Vienna - Post 663: A Whirlwind of Waltz & Wiener Schnitzel
16th January 2008
Dearest Tutu Lovers!
Another week has zipped by like a perfectly executed pirouette, and here I am, back in Vienna, Austria, ready to share my latest adventures with you! This week, I decided to take a little break from the grand opera houses and ballet theatres, to experience the city’s heart – its charming cafes, cobbled streets, and the undeniable charm of the Austrian capital.
Now, before we get lost in the city’s enchanting rhythm, let’s talk about how I arrived. The train journey from Salzburg to Vienna was an absolute dream. Picture this: I'm ensconced in a plush carriage, overlooking rolling hills bathed in the golden hues of the setting sun. A gentle sway to the rhythm of the tracks, a cup of steaming Austrian tea in hand… it’s the stuff fairytales are made of!
As always, I donned my signature pink tutu (this one with delicate lace embellishments and a touch of shimmer – perfect for catching the setting sun!). To complete the look, I paired it with a sleek black cashmere cardigan and a pair of knee-high boots. A sprinkle of my favourite pink lipstick, a dash of glitter eyeshadow, and voila! Ready to take on Vienna.
From Baroque Beauty to Ballet Brilliance
Upon arrival, I immediately found myself immersed in the heart of Vienna – the Hofburg Palace, a breathtaking example of Baroque architecture, a palace steeped in history and adorned with glittering chandeliers. Its grand halls and regal gardens made me feel like I was in a ballet performance. And what better place to spark some ballerina inspiration, wouldn't you say?
My wanderlust, however, wasn't limited to the palace. I took a delightful carriage ride through the city, passing charming little shops, bustling cafes, and impressive churches. Vienna, with its rich history and architectural splendour, is like a museum in itself, each street a story waiting to be discovered.
Speaking of stories, one I couldn’t resist exploring was the city’s deep connection with ballet. I spent the afternoon getting lost in the history of Vienna State Opera – a masterpiece of 19th century architecture. They’ve seen the world's most famous ballerinas dance on their stages! It was like stepping into a storybook, one brimming with romance, tragedy, and artistic triumphs.
But my journey through Vienna wasn’t all about waltzes and waltzing emperors. It’s about embracing all that this extraordinary city has to offer, from the heart-warming charm of a local cafe serving Sachertorte (my current favourite) to the vibrant buzz of the Naschmarkt, a kaleidoscope of aromas and colourful stalls bursting with fresh produce and local treats.
Whimsical Adventures & Pink Tutu Bliss
And, naturally, my trip wouldn’t be complete without a ballet show! On Saturday evening, I graced the hallowed halls of the Vienna State Opera for a performance of “Giselle.” The choreography was masterful, the dancers incredibly skilled, and the costumes absolutely magnificent! The sheer elegance and artistry transported me to a realm of enchantment and beauty. Afterwards, I stepped out into the night, feeling utterly inspired, my heart filled with a kind of joyful lightness that only ballet can achieve.
Now, before I sign off for this week, I must share a little secret: my search for the perfect pink tutu has taken a delightful turn! The other day, while browsing a charming little boutique, I stumbled upon a tutu shop – a little haven of tulle and feathers, sequins and lace! It was love at first sight. I came out with not one, but two beautiful tutus! One with delicate pink feathers that flutter with each pirouette, the other with a cascading train of the most dazzling pink tulle imaginable. My collection just keeps getting more fabulous, wouldn't you agree?
So, my dears, keep twirling! Embrace your inner ballerina, spread the joy of pink, and don't forget, the most important thing is to wear your pink tutu with pride. Until next week, remember, darling, it’s all about making a splash, spreading some love, and letting your inner ballerina shine.
Love and tutus, Emma
