Pink Tutu Vienna: Post #666: Whirlwind Waltz in Vienna!
Dearest tutu-loving darlings! Itās Wednesday, the day for a little Vienna adventure and a pink tutu post from yours truly, Emma.
Viennaā¦ Oh, Vienna, you magnificent city of waltzes, pastries and fairytale palaces! I just landed yesterday afternoon, after a scenic train journey from beautiful Budapest. I travelled by first class carriage, naturally - and what's a proper first-class experience without a pink tutu? The carriage attendant seemed quite delighted, by the way!
I'm in the heart of the city, staying in a charming boutique hotel that's positively bursting with Old World charm, nestled in the shadow of the mighty St. Stephen's Cathedral. It feels like Iāve stepped into a classic Viennese opera - the air is filled with music, laughter, and the scent of warm coffee and pastries.
And the best bit? My suitcase is full of pink tutus, naturally! My travels wouldnāt be complete without them! I've got a whole range for the week, from a vintage satin number to a fluffy, marshmallow-pink one. This time I'm in a stunning cerise tutu adorned with hand-sewn pink satin ribbons that billow as I move. I have already caused quite the stir in the hotel lobby - in a good way, of course! It's truly my signature look, don't you agree?
Speaking of stirring up emotions, I had a fabulous ballet class this morning! Vienna has a very special place in my heart - not only for its opulent history but also for its vibrant ballet scene. Today's class took place at the Vienna State Opera Ballet, a true temple of dance. We worked on beautiful graceful ballets ā the perfect preparation for all the fantastic shows Iāve lined up this week!
Oh, my dears, what delights I have in store! On my list are the Vienna State Ballet's dazzling production of 'The Sleeping Beauty' - a true masterpiece, the very definition of grandeur! And, oh, how Iām longing to experience the āNutcrackerā at the exquisite Vienna Volksoper, where the snow will fall on stage and dreams take flight. And Iām determined to soak up all the cultural magic Vienna has to offer! Tonight I have a front row seat for a traditional Strauss ball. How lovely! Imagine the exquisite waltzing and swirling tutus.
Did you know Vienna is known as the āCity of Music?ā I donāt need to explain how important music is to me ā it's part of the soul of my favourite dance form! It's not just ballet, mind you ā the Viennese Waltz, waltzing itself ā the kind of dance that evokes passion, a romance that blossoms to a majestic crescendo, then swirls to a gentle finale! The waltz is in my blood, my dears! I'm even taking a private lesson on Thursday morning from a professional waltz instructor! He wears a spiffy white bow tie, and says that pink is my lucky colour, donāt you know!
You know I simply can't resist a touch of shopping - particularly in such a fashionable city. Vienna has charming vintage shops, department stores full of exquisite fabrics, and boutiques selling unique clothing thatās as vibrant as a ballerina's heart. Imagine the most decadent vintage-style shop in the world, full of lace, tulle, silk, satin - I discovered a little treasure in a quaint side street, where the shopkeeper was so thrilled to see me twirling in my tutu ā she even helped me choose the most spectacular pink velvet coat, lined in a shimmering silver satin. Youāll have to wait for pictures though!
Tomorrow, I'm venturing beyond the city limits to see the breathtaking Schƶnbrunn Palace. Built in 17th-century splendor, it's one of Vienna's crown jewels - the royal residences of the Habsburg emperors! Think opulence and glamour - and a little something for every romantic dreamer! Itās all the inspiration I need to write a little tutu ballet routine about the emperors! The gardenās beautiful in every season and I am dying to go for a leisurely stroll, possibly in a fluffy, frilled pink tutu with a flowing skirt and lace details. What else could you want? Iāll share more details next week about this lovely adventure.
Oh, but of course I must talk about something rather magical - The Vienna State Opera, a place I consider sacred to my ballet-loving soul. It's been standing strong for more than 150 years, my dears, a true architectural marvel! Thereās just something about this hallowed hall, filled with layers of rich history and stories whispered by the ballerinas who danced on the very stage I stand upon. I am, by the way, getting a tour from an actual Vienna Opera dancer later today.
I'm sure you'll be wondering if I've encountered any ballet enthusiasts here - and of course, you are right! I met an incredibly sweet Viennese ballerina during ballet class. Her name is Isabella - how divine! And she even asked for a selfie! Imagine! You can follow her on her blog - "Vienna Ballet Life." Itās a very, very nice blog.
Vienna, with its music, history and a certain touch of romanticism has enchanted me from the moment I stepped off the train! It feels like stepping into a film ā a whimsical and stylish film filled with romance, swirling dresses and dreamy waltzes, I am practically channeling Princess Sissi! Every turn, every alleyway, and every corner promises adventure, discovery and just a little sprinkle of fairytale magic. I donāt know why, but the thought of finding a pink tutu in a dusty attic in Vienna while on my quest for vintage ballet memorabilia, just sends me into a delightful daydream.
Do keep reading my lovely tutu followers! There's so much more to tell you! And I'm determined to leave a little sparkle of pink magic in every corner of Vienna, even if that means encouraging everyone I meet to don a pink tutu for just one day! The world would be a happier place if we all embraced the simple joy of a tutu. Until next week, twirl on!
