Vienna Waltz: A Tutu Tale! (Post #677)
Wednesday 23rd April 2008
Hello darlings! It's Emma here, your favourite pink tutu-clad traveller, reporting live from Vienna, the City of Music! I arrived yesterday evening by train, a grand, old-fashioned steam engine that puffed its way through the rolling hills, a delightful journey indeed. There's nothing like the thrill of travelling by train, with the gentle clickety-clack of wheels and the soft swoosh of the wind, a perfect accompaniment to the lovely rolling hills and quaint little villages I passed through.
Now, I know what you're thinking. Vienna, land of waltzes and pastries? Of course, there's all that too, but for me, it's the history. The ballet history, that is! Vienna is steeped in ballet history, and I'm thrilled to be exploring its elegant theatres and uncovering the stories of legendary dancers who graced its stages. I feel an electrifying energy just walking through the grand doors of the Vienna State Opera! The plush red velvet seats, the elegant balconies, the smell of rich history in the air.
You know I just can't resist a little bit of a shopping spree. Vienna, dear reader, is a haven for beautiful tutus, the delicate tulle a soft cloud of pink. The craftsmanship here is astounding, every stitch a delicate work of art. I snagged the most perfect shade of blush-pink for a new tutu. I simply cannot resist adding a splash of colour and a hint of magic to every new city. I can just imagine myself twirling through Vienna's cobbled streets, leaving a cloud of tulle and the faint scent of cherry blossom in my wake.
But my main reason for coming to Vienna, beyond the glorious shopping and stunning scenery, was for the Vienna State Opera's current production of āSwan Lakeā. Oh my word! This was absolutely spectacular. The exquisite dancers glided effortlessly across the stage, their movements graceful and elegant. The music soared through the theatre, taking me away on a journey of romance and passion. The swansā movements were just breathtaking. They were so precise yet flowing, powerful and graceful at the same time. They brought tears to my eyes!
I confess, dear reader, itās these moments that really drive my desire to get everyone wearing a pink tutu. Thereās a shared passion that resonates across the world ā a love of beautiful dance, an appreciation for the stories told on stage and a yearning to be a little bit magical, to take a little trip away from the humdrum of everyday life. My goal may sound a little crazy, but hey, so are ballet tutus! That's why Iāve launched a new pink tutu campaign: #PinkTutuVienna! Because this beautiful city just deserves a touch of whimsy and fun! I'll be posting photos on social media throughout my stay, and I urge all of you to join the movement. Share a picture of you in a pink tutu, or even your favourite pink tutu look. You know I will, even if I have to wear one in my room in the hotel after midnight!
Tonight, I'll be experiencing the nightlife, joining a traditional waltz at a ballroom and of course, savouring the local treats ā I can't resist a taste of the infamous Vienna Apple Strudel.
I'll be sure to share more about my Viennese adventures with you all next Wednesday.
Until then, keep dancing!
Love, Emma

Fashion Corner: A Viennese Touch
Of course, Iām loving my new blush-pink tutu but whatās more, the Vienna stores have some real show-stopping dresses I have to tell you about. The shops here, tucked away in charming, cobbled lanes, are like little treasure chests. Think lace, brocade, silk and velvet!
Vienna Ballet Supply: I was delighted to discover this shop packed to the rafters with the most delightful ballet shoes! The shopkeeper, an old lady named Gertrude, shared some beautiful tales of Vienna ballet history. Gertrude also had the most amazing pink tutu fabric, so delicate it was practically floating. She insisted I buy some, promising me Iād be the āmost charming ballerina in Viennaā. I couldnāt resist and now I have a little piece of Vienna in my suitcase ready to transform into a tutu design for you all!
- FrƤulein Dresshaus: Imagine a boutique overflowing with the most delightful feminine garments you can imagine. Imagine beautiful silken blouses in jewel tones, skirts that float as you walk and dresses adorned with elaborate, delicate beading. Yes, āFrƤulein Dresshausā was a joy to wander around, soaking up all the beauty of a Parisian-style boutique tucked away in Vienna.
- A Waltz Under the Stars: As part of the Pink Tutu Vienna campaign, I had a bespoke tutu made by a local tailor, crafted using softest blush-pink tulle, perfect for waltzing beneath a Vienna sky. I canāt wait to twirl in it!
Cultural Curiosities: The Spirit of Vienna
I have a feeling this will be more than just a quick trip. This city has captivated my heart, dear readers! Its blend of grand classical architecture and artistic spirit make Vienna a joy to explore. I think I need to make a return visit to Vienna! What should I do? Should I do another dance performance here? Should I try a traditional Viennese waltz class?
I'd love to hear your suggestions! Tell me what you think is a āmust seeā in Vienna.
Until next Wednesday, my darlings! Keep dancing!
