Hello darlings!

It’s Wednesday again, and you know what that means...a brand new Pink Tutu blog post, straight from Vienna, Austria! This week has been utterly fabulous, packed with everything I adore – gorgeous ballet performances, a touch of history, and of course, copious amounts of pink, darling!

Vienna…oh, Vienna… I have to confess, my dear readers, this city is utterly enchanting. Imagine the most beautiful, elegant, and romantic setting you can think of. That, my lovelies, is Vienna! It’s just bursting with old-world charm, like a page ripped straight from a fairytale book. I can just picture it now – dainty coffee houses, grand squares bustling with life, and those magnificent grand old buildings – it's pure fairytale perfection!

And guess what, my darling tutus? There's something magical in the air. No, I don’t mean a unicorn! 😉 This is the city of Waltz, a waltz I felt swirling through the air, tempting me to spin in my pink tutu. I knew this was a city where I could get lost in a whimsical dance.

Now, I have to tell you about my whirlwind week – it’s been packed with all sorts of excitement! I kicked things off by waltzing my way through the Vienna State Opera, watching the most dazzling performance of ‘La Traviata’ I've ever seen. It was truly breathtaking. I felt like a tiny little fairy being swept up by a magical symphony. And of course, darling, I did try to dance in my seat. (Just a teensy bit.) Don't judge me! It's almost impossible to sit still when surrounded by so much magic!

From the Grand Stage to Ballet's Beginnings

After the opera, I was itching to explore the history of Vienna's ballet scene. Turns out, this beautiful city has a rich ballet heritage that dates all the way back to the 1600s, a fact that sent shivers down my pink-tutu-wearing spine! The Austrian Court Ballet had a grand beginning, with royal decrees that put ballet at the very centre of artistic life in the city. I even saw some original costumes from this golden era, darling! They were positively breathtaking!

It's all very exciting for me, especially as I'm so passionate about ballet and its history. And just a fun fact – the tutus I adore are said to have originated right here in Vienna in the early 1800s! Oh my! Can you believe it, my darlings? 🩰

My Vienna Itinerary – A Pink Tutu Take on the City

Now, I have to give you all the low-down on what you absolutely have to see and do in Vienna! Buckle up your little ballet shoes, lovelies, this city is bursting with charm:

  • The Vienna State Opera: Oh darling, let's face it - this is one of the most prestigious opera houses in the entire world. And it's absolutely dazzling. It's like a majestic ballroom fit for royalty! They even have an art nouveau staircase. Can you imagine! Oh, darling, I had to get a picture of myself there!
  • Schönbrunn Palace: My love, Schönbrunn is like something out of a princess's dream. It's a palace straight from a storybook. From the stunning gardens and sprawling grounds to the incredible interiors, it’s an architectural feast for the eyes! And the most fascinating fact? This palace is home to the Viennese court ballet since the late 17th century. Oh, to have danced under these glittering chandeliers!
  • Hofburg Palace: You know those classic fairytale books, where the beautiful princess lives in a huge, glamorous castle? Well, that’s exactly what Hofburg Palace is! This historical palace has been home to a whole host of Austrian royals – think emperors, queens, and archdukes. Now, darling, that’s what I call fabulous!

Exploring Vienna by Train

Did I tell you how much I adore train travel, darlings? I especially love the elegance of train journeys across Europe! There's something so charming about watching the scenery rush by while enjoying a warm cup of tea, maybe a spot of writing in my diary, or of course, browsing my favorite online fashion shops! I also managed to squeeze in a visit to Schönbrunn Zoo, which is also an enchanting fairytale palace (complete with peacocks, giraffes, and tigers!). It’s only a hop and skip from the city centre and easily reached by the wonderful Vienna underground system!

Dinner and Dance: Vienna’s Delights

No visit to Vienna is complete without savouring the incredible food and dancing the night away, darling. I spent an afternoon browsing the fabulous boutiques and markets in the 1st district, and you know me, a little Pink Tutu blogger needs to indulge in some fabulous shopping! This area has everything, darling! You can spend the whole day finding beautiful treasures to bring back home, especially unique jewellery shops and incredible boutiques that I just have to visit every week!

Of course, no visit is complete without some Viennese cuisine. My, my, what deliciousness! The traditional food is a culinary treat for the senses – tender schnitzels, gooey Sachertorte (that chocolate cake has me dancing in delight!), and those lovely little coffee and cake combinations are absolutely scrumptious. And of course, it wouldn't be Vienna without the waltz!

And let's not forget the delicious coffee culture! Vienna is renowned for its coffee, darling! From the iconic 'Melange' to a strong 'Einer mit Milch,' there are endless possibilities. The whole café scene in Vienna is just so chic, you have to see it to believe it.

Pink Tutu Performances and Shopping in Vienna

Now, my sweet dears, you all know how much I adore ballet and dance! In Vienna, the whole city practically dances to its own tune, with grand ballrooms and historic dance studios. I’ve been lucky enough to snag tickets for some incredibly prestigious performances this week, and it's left me absolutely spellbound. You could just feel the electricity in the air! And it's a sight to behold, especially in the enchanting Vienna State Opera.

Fashion and the Vienna Charm

You’ve heard all about the fashion scene, but you must understand, Vienna is bursting with unique style. It’s a blend of traditional and modern, all held together by a sophisticated edge. Think crisp white blouses, flattering maxi-dresses, tailored trousers, and of course, that little touch of sparkle. This city makes me feel my most fashionable self. I'm just brimming with ideas for outfits I can’t wait to recreate at home.

I also fell head over heels for the street fashion in Vienna, darling. This city just breathes fashion, a sort of sophisticated European charm that makes every day feel like a Parisian catwalk! Every time I head out, it's an explosion of chic clothing and stylish accessories!

Living like a Princess (Almost!)

As I've been wandering around Vienna, darling, I've felt like I’ve stepped right into a fairytale book! Everywhere I look, the architecture, the cobbled streets, the old-world charm – it all comes together so beautifully. This city knows how to embrace the romance. And it has really rekindled my inner-princess. You know me, darlings, it doesn't get more enchanting than Vienna, my dears.

And that, my lovelies, is my tale of Vienna! If you are planning a trip to Vienna, make sure you come to this fairytale city and prepare to be mesmerised! And don't forget to pack a fabulous pink tutu!

Until next time!

Lots of love,

Emma 🩰🌸💖

P.S. Just a little peek into what's on my to-do list next week – my dear readers, get ready for some fashion fun! I’ve already planned to visit Vienna’s vibrant 7th district – the famous Naschmarkt – for a little retail therapy. We’ll also visit one of the city's vintage shops. (My heart beats for a great vintage find!) I’m excited to explore the chic boutiques and see the latest trends! I'll be back next Wednesday to share my adventures and inspire you with new ways to rock your own personal style, darlings!
