Pink Tutu Vienna: A Waltz Through The Austrian Capital - Post 737!

Hello darling readers,

It's Wednesday, and you know what that means? Another Pink Tutu Vienna blog post for you! It’s me, your favourite tutu-wearing traveller, Emma, writing to you from the heart of Vienna, Austria. The air here is buzzing with the intoxicating blend of waltz tunes and the scent of strudel - pure magic, darling!

I just had the most glorious weekend. I'm embracing Vienna’s opulent history with open arms and a perfectly pink tutu! You know, I have this thing about pink - it’s just the most delightful colour and a perfect representation of the playful, spirited attitude I try to carry around wherever I go. It’s no surprise then, that my travelling wardrobe includes more than its fair share of pink tulle. And, well, it would be absolutely criminal for a ballet-mad, tutu-loving girl like me to visit a city with such rich ballet heritage without showcasing some seriously impressive tulle.

This past week was filled with an extraordinary ballet performance, a delicious horse-drawn carriage ride, and a little shopping spree.

The Ballet Experience:

Friday night saw me waltzing through the magnificent Vienna State Opera. You guys, this was just a dream come true! Seeing the Vienna State Ballet perform in this majestic space – it’s not something you just forget, you know? My heart was fluttering in my chest (a little bit from the amazing performance, a little bit from my sparkly, pink tulle tutu!)

It was a truly mesmerising ballet. I love how the Viennese embrace their history. They were all so stylish and sophisticated.

This reminded me of how excited I am for our little excursion to the Imperial Hofburg Palace, planned for this weekend! Imagine a palace built in 1365 - the opulent setting will be positively delicious! Vienna’s got a truly remarkable story. Imagine, over 600 years of art, music, and fashion history - I cannot wait to dig in to the stories, the secrets and the fashions.

Speaking of stories…

From Ballerinas to Tutus:

A ballet performance always makes me reflect on the history of the tutu. I remember researching this for my university dissertation - such a fascination! I always have a new tale tucked away for you, about the wonderful history of tutus!

Did you know that the word tutu first appeared around the time of the French Revolution (talk about fashion evolving during huge changes!) The French ballerina Marie Taglioni popularised it by showing off her delicate legs. Back then, it wasn't the full fluffy style we adore now, but a shorter version designed for dancers to demonstrate grace and speed!

My journey across Europe has truly broadened my love for tutus and the story they tell, from their early designs and the way they evolved into a symbol of artistic expression - the possibilities are simply endless. You know me, though, the more tulle the better. So yes, that means lots of fluffy skirts to come. And if you’re in Vienna, there's no better time to visit a performance. The Austrian Ballet tradition, even before Maria Taglioni, dates back to the 1700s.

And Now For a Bit Of "A Little Trip To Vienna" Style:

As for my Vienna outfits, let's talk fashion darling! Now, you know I adore my pink tulle, but let’s add a little something for a little Vienna flair: A blush pink, satin jacket. That added a sophisticated touch while not detracting from the magical tutu itself.

You'll be wanting to grab a pair of black, lace-up heeled boots for a classic Vienna feel. Let me tell you, comfort is important. Vienna's a place to be walked! And of course, don’t forget your cute travel bag - my little number has enough room for all my ballet books and, well, of course a backup tutu or two - one can never be too prepared!

Speaking of getting around…

From Ballet to Trains & Horses

The train journey to Vienna was absolutely magical. I couldn’t help but admire the breathtaking landscapes and charming villages. It's so enchanting, it's almost like you're on a journey back in time! Oh darling, the way the rolling green hills give way to the ancient city - just pure beauty! I think we can all agree, a travel by train is truly an adventure in itself!

I absolutely love a bit of horse-drawn carriage riding, too! And darling, let me tell you, there is absolutely nothing better than taking a stroll through the charming, cobbled streets in Vienna whilst being pulled by a majestic horse. We stopped at the Schönbrunn Palace, oh my dear it's absolutely breathtaking!

So, Darling, I hope you enjoyed my Vienna adventures this week. Next week, it's on to a visit to the **Austrian National Library. And a bit more shopping of course, because every wardrobe needs a bit more tulle - especially one worn with the help of horses and trains! Don't forget to check in with me next Wednesday, darlings!

Yours in pink, Emma x
