Post #760: Vienna, My Dearest! A Waltz in a Pink Tutu!

Hello, lovelies! It's Emma here, back from a whirlwind adventure in the most charming city – Vienna, darling! This week’s blog is a bit special, because I'm going to take you with me on a little journey through this beautiful place, exploring its fascinating ballet history and, of course, squeezing in a little pink tutu magic along the way.

Remember that train journey I told you about last week, the one where I got caught in a charming little book shop in Cologne and lost track of time? Well, I finally made it to Vienna, my suitcase packed with several pink tutus and a heart filled with excitement.

A Grand Arrival

Vienna has always had a special place in my heart, a sort of magical place conjured up from stories about Mozart, Strauss, and their iconic waltzes. But this time, I was coming not just as a music and dance enthusiast, but also as a fashion adventurer ready to explore the Viennese style.

Stepping off the train at Vienna Hauptbahnhof, the world suddenly felt... well, quite grand! The city was a mix of historical architecture and modern bustle, just as you imagine it. From the first glance, I knew this was a city with its own heartbeat, and it seemed to be playing the most beautiful, lilting tune, just waiting for me to join in.

A Waltz Through History

You know how much I adore history, darlings, especially when it comes to dance and ballet. And Vienna just explodes with stories. From the Imperial Palace (my, what an impressive building, and it was overflowing with grand interiors – very "princess-worthy" in a good way!), to the Schönbrunn Palace, where the ballet history of Vienna first bloomed. You could just feel the stories swirling around you – waltzing kings and queens, dancers gracefully twirling across centuries!

My little Pink Tutu Adventure in Vienna started with a visit to the Hofburg Imperial Palace, the summer residence of the Habsburg Emperors, and where I felt like I was walking through the very history of ballet. There was so much royal elegance everywhere, so much to explore and admire, so many little details to discover. This city truly holds itself with such poise and grace.

The Ballet that Sets the World on Fire

After spending the morning exploring the Hofburg Palace, I treated myself to the afternoon performance of The Nutcracker at the Vienna State Opera. It's considered one of the world's finest ballet companies, and it did not disappoint.

I took my seat in the grand hall of the Vienna State Opera. It felt magical to be surrounded by history and so many others who came to be part of something so captivating and enthralling. The dancers, so graceful, so fluid – you could feel the joy in every movement. And then there were the costumes – some exquisite, some dramatic – but they all fit in this historic, graceful venue so well. The ballet told a lovely story, and by the time the performance was over, my heart was overflowing with happiness and joy, something I find happens so often at a ballet.

Pink Tutu and Coffee House Culture

Being in Vienna was like walking into a fashion magazine! And, of course, it wouldn't be a trip to Vienna without indulging in their delicious coffee culture. Oh, those lovely Viennese cafes! I sat by a window at one of the iconic cafes, savouring my cappuccino in a stylish pink tutu, surrounded by elegant ladies with beautifully crafted pastries, sipping their coffee with exquisite refinement. It's like a little slice of ballet history served on a china plate with a generous amount of cream!

The coffee was rich and fragrant, with that satisfying kick to kickstart the afternoon, and I spent a delightful couple of hours watching the city come alive. A true sense of the 'Viennese lifestyle', so often romanticised in literature, movies, and of course, operas and ballets. Vienna truly does have an aura that enchants you and puts you under a special kind of spell!

Tutus in the City

Naturally, one of my absolute favorite parts of being in Vienna was taking the opportunity to explore the shops for some delightful fashion inspiration. Did I find any pink tutus in Vienna, you ask? Of course!

I have to tell you about this fabulous vintage shop on the edge of the historic city center, it was like a time capsule. The staff were so charming, offering suggestions about all of the amazing little stores. The moment I stepped into the vintage store I found a whole new world of vintage clothes, lace and silk. They weren’t quite the same as my modern tutus, but still they made me happy – so beautifully crafted! I came home with a vintage ballet shoe, perfect to add to my little collection of treasures. Vienna is really the kind of place you can get lost in, a place where vintage treasures lie in wait for a stylish fairy godmother like me.

A Carriage Ride Through Time

The city is so full of grand architecture and opulent palaces – they really lend themselves to taking in the beautiful scenery by a horse and carriage. Yes, I indulged in a proper Cinderella experience, darling, and even wore a pink tutu with it! And honestly, the carriages are absolutely stunning! It’s something so old fashioned, yet a part of this incredibly historical city that somehow works perfectly.

A Goodbye Waltz

As my time in Vienna came to a close, I took one final stroll through the city's heart, soaking up the charm and magic. It truly is an amazing place. The city left a beautiful melody in my heart, as though it were whispering a love song of ancient traditions, artistic triumphs, and modern vibrancy, and my heart has started humming along with Vienna.

Don't forget, darlings, this is just a little taste of my time in Vienna. My blog will have many more Vienna-inspired fashion posts coming, so stay tuned for that. And, until next Wednesday, when I share more of my ballet journey from my next adventure, remember to keep your chin up, keep on dancing, and never stop believing in the magic of pink tutus. Stay tuned!
