Pink Tutu Vienna: Post 776 - Waltz Me Away!

Wednesday, 17th March 2010

Dearest fellow tutu-wearers,

Iā€™m writing this from the most beautiful city! Vienna. The city of waltzes, operas, and, you guessed it, more pink tutus than you could shake a wand at! I arrived yesterday, the journey from Derbyshire a whirlwind of train-chatter and cafe lattes. You wouldn't believe the stares I got at Euston station when I pulled my favourite pink tutu from my bag for the journey. The lovely conductor even gave me a cheeky grin and asked if I was going for a ā€œswirling performanceā€ on the train. Bless him, he got a giggle out of my answer: "Always, dear fellow!"

First impressions: oh Vienna, you're breathtaking!

The moment I stepped off the train and onto Viennese soil, a shiver ran down my spine. The architecture! The cobbled streets! And the aroma of freshly baked strudels swirling around every corner - truly heaven for a tutu-loving girl on a sugar rush!

Pink perfection at the Schƶnbrunn Palace

This morning I indulged in the grandeur of the Schƶnbrunn Palace. Oh, it was magnificent! A fairy-tale palace with gold embellishments, lush gardens, and a dazzling ballet performance in the gardens later that day! Can you even imagine?!

My little pink tutu twirled in delight at the sheer elegance of the surroundings. I even met a couple who told me that the Vienna State Opera is holding a tutu-themed dress up for their next ballet, so I knew I had to snag a ticket. Imagine, the whole theatre, filled with dancing, tutu-clad ladies and gents - the thought of it made me swoon.

Shopping spree at the Naschmarkt

After my palace tour, I made a beeline for the Naschmarkt - the biggest open-air market in Vienna. I always get the biggest buzz from discovering hidden gems and unique shops. This place was a wonderland of spices, fresh fruits, flowers, and - of course - clothes! It wouldnā€™t be a proper Pink Tutu adventure without some retail therapy.

I snagged the most exquisite pink feather boa that would look divine paired with a vibrant crimson tutu - imagine the dramatic entrance at the Opera! A must-have for any self-respecting pink-lover, right? I also scored a vintage porcelain doll, with the most charming pink dress, as a keepsake to remember my Vienna escapades.

Dinner with the Viennese Ballerinas

Later tonight, Iā€™m meeting up with some lovely local ballerinas for dinner. Can you imagine - dancing around Vienna with a group of like-minded pink tutu enthusiasts? The thrill is immense! We're discussing plans for an impromptu ballet performance in the Hofburg Palace gardens next week. Fingers crossed we can pull it off.

On the hunt for historical ballet treasures

Tomorrow I'm diving into the city's history. I'm itching to explore the "Museum of the History of Art," hoping to discover more about the enchanting story of the ballet. Vienna has a long and beautiful relationship with the dance, after all. Who knows, I might find a treasure trove of old tutus to inspire my own designs.

A final note for my fellow tutu enthusiasts

I canā€™t believe how incredibly supportive and friendly everyone here in Vienna is. This city really embraces individuality. Everywhere I go, people smile at me and compliment my pink tutu. Honestly, I feel like I've found a community of like-minded souls! If you haven't been to Vienna before, I urge you to add it to your bucket list. This place is magical, especially if you're a tutu lover.

Until next Wednesday, dearest fellow dancers! Keep your spirits high, your pink bright, and remember, life's too short to be anything but fabulous!
