Pink Tutu Vienna: Post #777 - A Whirlwind of Waltz and Wiener Schnitzel!

Wednesday 24th March, 2010

Dearest Tutu-lovers,

Hello from Vienna! It feels surreal to be writing this post from the heart of Europe, where the streets are cobbled, the buildings grand, and the airā€¦ well, the air smells like Sachertorte! As I sit here, surrounded by the clatter of Viennese trams and the cheerful chatter of cafe patrons, I canā€™t help but feel a delightful mix of excitement and gratitude. After all, it's not every day a ballerina gets to trade the stage for the streets of Vienna!

This journey was fuelled by a passion for ballet history and a thirst for adventure, but also by a healthy dose of "Pink Tutu ambition." You see, I have a goal - a pink, tutu-fied world - and Vienna, with its majestic history and cultural allure, was the perfect setting for my latest mission!

My arrival was as whimsical as one could expect. After a leisurely journey from Derbyshire, England, aboard a train as elegant as a vintage ballet costume, I arrived at Vienna's Central Station, heart pounding with anticipation.

Speaking of arrivals, Vienna is a city of dramatic entrances! Every building here seems to whisper of history and grandeur - like the Opera House, for example, with its majestic faƧade and soaring arches. This is where the legendary waltzes took flight, and where Strauss himself conducted the most beautiful music ever composed! It was almost like I had stepped into a classic ballet!

My journey began at the Wiener Staatsoper (the Vienna State Opera), a dazzling masterpiece of neo-renaissance architecture. Inside, the opulence was simply breathtaking, from the velvet curtains to the gilded balconies and the crystal chandeliers that cast a mesmerizing light on the stage.

The performance, a breathtaking interpretation of ā€œSwan Lakeā€, swept me away with its emotional depth and technical brilliance. Watching those ballerinas glide across the stage, each move precise and elegant, it reignited my own passion for ballet. And wouldnā€™t you know it, the ballerinas wore exquisite, ethereal tutus in a shade of ivory that brought back memories of graceful swans, the perfect canvas for showcasing their ethereal beauty.

Speaking of tutus, how can I possibly talk about Vienna without mentioning the Wiener Opernball? This legendary event is the pinnacle of Viennese social life - a grand celebration of music, dancing, and sartorial elegance. Iā€™m dreaming of attending next year, dressed in a pink tulle extravaganza that would turn heads even in this sophisticated city!

And the beauty of Vienna is not just limited to its architecture and the Opera. The streets themselves are an enchanting symphony of fashion! Every corner boasts elegant boutiques showcasing chic designs, from the vintage charm of shops in the Naschmarkt, brimming with vibrant fabrics and vintage fashion finds, to the cutting-edge designer wear found on Graben Street.

For a ballet lover like me, Viennaā€™s streets are a treasure trove of inspiration. My imagination soars with visions of vibrant tutus twirling around the baroque fountains, their tulle reflecting the shimmering Danube.

And speaking of tutus, my dearest readers, it wouldn't be a Pink Tutu Vienna post without mentioning my own wardrobe adventures. I just couldn't leave Vienna without finding the perfect tutu, so naturally, I embarked on a hunt that led me to a hidden gem - a charming little atelier tucked away in the heart of the city. The owner, an elderly woman with eyes that sparkled like a thousand rhinestones, was an expert on all things tulle and ribbon, and helped me find the most enchanting tutu - a breathtaking pink masterpiece adorned with delicate lace appliques.

Iā€™ll let you in on a secret - this new tutu will be featured in my next blog post!

Vienna, with its vibrant history, captivating beauty, and unparalleled cultural richness, has awakened my love for both ballet and fashion even more. This city is a true symphony of life, an inspiring canvas upon which every art form finds its perfect expression. But don't think this means my quest for the ā€œPink Tutu worldā€ is over! My adventures continue.

Till next Wednesday, keep those pink tutus twirling!

With love,

Emma www.pink-tutu.com
