Pink Tutu Vienna: A Ballerina's Journey Through the City of Waltz #895

Wednesday 27th June 2012

Hello, my dearest tutu-lovers! Emma here, bringing you another whirlwind adventure from the enchanting city of Vienna! This week, my pink tulle wings have carried me through a symphony of sights, sounds and - of course! - shimmering pink.

My darling Vienna, a city built on a foundation of graceful waltzes and artistic expression, truly is a dream come true for a ballerina like me. Every cobblestone street feels like a stage, every cafe a potential tutu twirling spot.

This week, my journey started with a charming ride aboard a grand old steam train. I do love a train journey! The gentle sway, the nostalgic click-clack of the wheels, the scenery zipping by like a graceful ballet - it all conjures a sense of romanticism that truly inspires.

Once in Vienna, my first port of call, as always, was the opera house. Can you believe it’s already the 150th anniversary of the Vienna State Opera this year? How lucky to be celebrating with such a prestigious company! The sheer opulence of the building is simply breathtaking - ornate details, gold-gilded pillars, the iconic chandelier cascading like a sparkling waterfall of light - the perfect setting for a grand, sweeping performance. This week, it was a performance of "Der Rosenkavalier" by Strauss, and I've got to say, it had me spinning in my seat! The exquisite costumes, the passion in the music, the elegant movements of the dancers, the intricate storytelling – oh, it was simply captivating.

Afterwards, I ventured out into the cobblestone alleys, inhaling the sweet scents of freshly baked pastries and Viennese coffee. The streets are bustling with life – vendors selling trinkets and flowers, musicians playing hauntingly beautiful melodies, and of course, an abundance of exquisite shops boasting gorgeous attire, jewels and shoes! As any good tutu-wearing ballerina knows, a girl can never have too many tutus. So, naturally, I succumbed to the temptation and purchased a beautiful pink tulle skirt with delicate lace detailing, fit for a princess.

Vienna has such a magical way of blending the old and the new, the grand and the quaint. It's impossible to wander these streets and not feel the pulse of history. So I made sure to visit one of my absolute favourite historical sites, the Schönbrunn Palace. Stepping into this grand imperial palace was like stepping back in time - I imagined myself as Empress Sisi, gliding through these majestic rooms in a sweeping pink tulle gown. It's amazing how a place can so powerfully evoke a sense of wonder and grandeur, making one truly appreciate the evolution of fashion and dance through the ages.

Talking about fashion, the shopping scene in Vienna is simply phenomenal. From couture boutiques to vintage shops, it is an absolute fashionista's paradise! I indulged in a delightful afternoon browsing the designer showrooms along Kohlmarkt, dreaming of couture tutus and delicate ballet shoes. Later that evening, I enjoyed a magical horse-drawn carriage ride through the city. As we clip-clopped along the elegant streets, my heart was full of joy - Vienna was making my dreams come true.

And speaking of dreams, my own personal ballet project is slowly taking shape. My latest goal? To start a local ballet academy! The thought of sharing my passion with children, teaching them to twirl, to leap, and to dance with the grace of a butterfly fills me with an excitement I can barely contain! I imagine teaching them the history of ballet, sharing stories of famous dancers like Anna Pavlova and the Ballets Russes. It's something that's been simmering on the back burner for a while, and it's so exhilarating to finally begin brainstorming!

So, that's my darling Vienna for this week. As always, I have been absolutely smitten by this captivating city and its magical mix of culture, beauty and, of course, a whole lot of pink! But before I sign off, I must share a little something special. Did you know, June 27th is "Tutu Appreciation Day?" I can't possibly imagine a more fitting occasion to celebrate the world of tutus!

Until next week, darling readers! May your lives be filled with joy, fashion, and lots and lots of twirls! And don't forget - every single one of you is beautiful and amazing, no matter what you wear! Now go out there and spread the love, with a pink tutu and a joyful heart!

With love,

Emma
