Pink Tutu Vienna: Blog Post #903 - Waltz into Vienna, My Darlings!

Wednesday 22nd August 2012

Hello my lovely tutu-loving readers! As you know, I, your favourite Derbyshire ballerina-about-town, Emma, have been a tad quieter than usual on the Pink Tutu Vienna front this summer, what with performing my way through the European theatre circuit. But never fear, my fellow tutu enthusiasts, I'm back with a flurry of pink tulle and Vienna's beautiful waltzes to fill you in on my recent escapades!

You see, Vienna - the city of waltzes, pastries, and imperial history - is a veritable paradise for any lover of classical music, dance, and, well, pretty much anything that sparkles. It's a dream come true for this little ballerina, trust me.

My journey began, as always, on a train from my previous ballet stop. There's something so magical about traversing the landscape on the Iron Horse, letting your mind wander and your eyes feast on rolling hills, picturesque villages, and sprawling fields. Oh, and I can't forget the pastries! I think the only thing better than a pink tutu is a French pastry, and believe me, there's no shortage of them on any European train journey.

Vienna, like a majestic ballerina herself, glided into view as I arrived, the spires of its stunning architecture piercing the clear summer sky. My heart skipped a beat, and I knew, this city was going to be utterly captivating. First stop, naturally, was my hotel. It was absolutely divine - think Austrian grandeur, gilded chandeliers, and plush, velvet sofas that practically whispered "Afternoon Tea!"

After unpacking (and a brief twirl in my room just to feel the space, naturally!), I wasted no time in heading straight for the shops. Vienna's shopping streets are a veritable feast for the senses. There were so many incredible stores crammed full of exquisite fashions that my eyes practically popped out! I discovered the most amazing hat shop, a haven of colourful millinery masterpieces that reminded me of Marie Antoinette's lavish attire. Oh, and don't even get me started on the exquisite vintage shops overflowing with beautiful, bohemian pieces that cried out for a twirl on the dancefloor! But remember my darlings, my obsession lies in the ultimate form of fashion - the pink tutu!

My second day in Vienna was dedicated to the ultimate ballerina pilgrimage: a visit to the Vienna State Opera House. The grandeur of this iconic building literally took my breath away. With its exquisite neo-Renaissance architecture and imposing, sweeping staircase, it's no wonder this venue is revered as one of the world's leading opera houses. I could picture the history unfold within its walls, a legacy of grand ballerinas and soaring melodies. The opera house was so awe-inspiring, it nearly caused my heart to skip a beat! You can just imagine the magnificent ball gowns and waltzes dancing beneath the chandelier.

After an afternoon of absorbing the rich cultural tapestry of Vienna, it was time to experience the city's heart and soul - the legendary Viennese waltz. That night, I dressed in my most dazzling pink tutu - my blush-hued "Vienna Dreams" tutu - and, following the tantalising aroma of pastries and Viennese coffee, found myself at a charming café. As the music began, the sound of violins weaving intricate melodies through the air, a magical spell fell upon the room. Couples waltzed gracefully across the floor, their movements as fluid as the swirling coffee foam in their cups. I joined in, twirling and dancing alongside strangers, united by the shared joy of the waltz.

My Vienna journey continued in a flurry of cultural delights. I visited the Schönbrunn Palace, once home to the Habsburg dynasty, where I strolled through opulent gardens and imagined Empress Sisi elegantly swirling in a ballgown. I delved into the city's historical centre, marveling at St. Stephen's Cathedral, its intricate gothic architecture a testament to faith and beauty.

And, of course, I savored the decadent pastries! I sampled sachertorte, its chocolate richness an ode to the city's sweet tooth. I devoured apfelstrudel, a symphony of flaky pastry and sweet apples that sent my tastebuds soaring. Vienna is a city where every street corner is a feast for the eyes, the ears, and the stomach!

Every single day of this amazing journey, I fell deeper under the spell of this charming and elegant city. Vienna is a city that makes your heart sing, a place where history and glamour merge to create a timeless beauty. It is a place where pink tutus truly belong, my dears! It is a place that makes you feel like the ballerina you were meant to be!

Until next time my dearest readers,

XOXO

Emma

P.S. Remember, it's never too late to slip into a pink tutu and twirl your worries away!
