Pink Tutu Vienna: Post 911 - A Waltz in the City of Dreams (and Dancing!)
Guten Tag, meine lieben Pink Tutu lovers!
It’s Wednesday, which means it's time for another Pink Tutu Vienna adventure! This week I'm taking you on a whirlwind journey through the heart of the Austrian capital - a city that's as enchanting as a Strauss waltz and as captivating as a graceful pirouette.
Let’s rewind back to the train ride… My trusty steed, the Orient Express (I've got my eye on a compartment with plush pink velvet seats!), delivered me to the grand Vienna Hauptbahnhof this morning. I swear, you can practically smell the Viennese waltz in the air as soon as you step off the platform. There's just something about the elegant architecture, the horse-drawn carriages clip-clopping down the cobbled streets, and the symphony of buskers serenading passersby - it’s magical!
Speaking of horses, I couldn't resist indulging in a carriage ride this afternoon. Imagine, me, in my pinkest, pointiest tutu, gliding through the heart of the city, surrounded by stunning baroque buildings, the crisp autumn air swirling around my hair! It was utterly heavenly. Just be warned - you’ll need a strong stomach for the cobblestones!
But Vienna is about more than just romantic rides and stunning architecture. The city has a pulsating heart, beating to the rhythm of art, culture, and yes, you guessed it - ballet!
Tonight was an absolute dream - a performance of Swan Lake at the Staatsoper! I couldn't have dreamt of a more perfect setting - plush velvet seats, exquisite chandeliers dripping with crystals, the rich aroma of jasmine swirling around me… The dancers were phenomenal, their movements flowing with such exquisite grace and strength, that it simply took my breath away. It’s no wonder that Vienna has such a long and illustrious ballet history.
But it's not all tutus and tights. Shopping in Vienna is an absolute joy - you can literally lose yourself in designer boutiques, independent art stores and quaint vintage shops bursting with hidden gems. I scored a fabulous, emerald-green brocade evening coat today that would have made the Empress herself envious (a bit of a wardrobe mishap meant the sales assistant mistook me for royalty). I also picked up some delectable Sachertorte (can you believe it's chocolate cake filled with apricot jam?) to fuel my evening performance back in Derbyshire… it’s just so hard to leave without a little something sweet!
As the sun sets over the city, painting the sky in hues of peach and lavender, I’m reminded that Vienna truly is a city for dreamers, for lovers of beauty and elegance. It’s the kind of place that makes you want to twirl through life, embracing every moment with grace, poise, and yes, a little touch of pink!
*Until next Wednesday, darling pink tutu friends, remember to embrace the grace and beauty in your everyday life! *
P.S: Did you know that October 17th was the birthday of legendary ballet dancer Margot Fonteyn? I celebrated by twirling my way through the streets, with the city's enchanting ambiance and the sweet sounds of waltz music dancing in my ears. It felt fitting!
