Vienna Waltz: Pink Tutu in the City of Music

Post Number: 913

Wednesday 31st October 2012

Dearest readers,

Greetings from the glorious city of Vienna! I'm absolutely giddy with excitement - this week's travels have been truly magical, and Vienna is just oozing with beauty and history. The city is buzzing with culture and art, the kind that gets right into your soul and makes you feel alive! I can already tell that this trip will be one for the memory banks, and trust me, this little Pink Tutu is gonna make the most of every moment.

Arriving in Vienna

After a leisurely train journey, gliding across the countryside with my trusty copy of “The Nutcracker” for company, I arrived at the Vienna Hauptbahnhof. The station was a symphony of architectural elegance, echoing with the energy of the city's constant hum. I grabbed my suitcase and, wouldn't you know it, spotted a lovely horse-drawn carriage just outside. Couldn't resist a bit of Victorian whimsy, so off I went for a charming ride through the heart of the city.

Vienna, even from the carriage seat, was everything I dreamed it would be: cobbled streets lined with quaint buildings, beautiful parks filled with laughter, and the most enchanting shops bursting with delicate lace, stunning crystals, and yes, even the occasional pink feather boa! The air hummed with music, and it seemed like every building had a fascinating story waiting to be discovered.

Ballet Bliss

As you all know, this Pink Tutu's life is pretty much one long dance marathon! The main reason for my Viennese pilgrimage was the grand opening of the Vienna State Opera's new season. Let me tell you, dear readers, this opera house is quite simply stunning! Built in the late 19th century, it is a true architectural masterpiece, and the interiors were nothing short of spectacular. Rich velvet, gold trimmings, and the most intricate sculptures adorned every corner. The feeling as I entered, after a quick stop for a photo op in my fabulous new pink feather boa, was pure magic!

My seats were perfect - right in the centre of the main floor, allowing for an unblocked view of the stage and, I must say, a wonderful sight of all the dazzlingly dressed ladies around me! The opera, “Don Giovanni,” was a true spectacle of artistry, combining beautiful costumes, intricate choreography, and an enchanting score. It's amazing how the music just draws you in and takes you to another place. It left me speechless, literally!

Tutu Exploration

Vienna, for a lover of ballet and all things frilly, is an absolute wonderland! You know I love to visit the dance stores in every city I travel to, and the selection here was outstanding. Rows and rows of dazzling tutus, from classical white to vibrant shades of turquoise and a gorgeous deep magenta, were ready for twirling! I, of course, couldn't leave without adding a little something pink to my collection - a new tulle skirt for my street performance rehearsals, I mean, who can resist a little sparkle, especially when you're exploring such an exciting city?

I also spent a whole afternoon at the wonderful Wiener Staatsballett museum. What a treasure trove of ballet history! They have a captivating exhibition tracing the history of ballet from the court of Louis XIV to the 20th century. They even had costumes and stage sets from some of the most famous ballets, such as "Giselle" and "Swan Lake." My eyes lit up when I spotted a display dedicated to tutu history. Just imagine, tutus have been captivating audiences for centuries!

Street Performers and Fashion Find

While strolling through the historic squares of Vienna, I was treated to an impromptu ballet performance in the middle of the park! There they were, three lovely dancers from the Vienna State Ballet, offering the city a captivating demonstration of their talents. It's incredible how these amazing performers can transform the simplest public spaces into magical theatres.

No trip is complete without a shopping spree, and Vienna didn't disappoint! As I wandered down a narrow street, a vibrant pink storefront caught my eye. Inside, it was like a dream - layers and layers of the most decadent vintage clothing. It felt like I’d stepped into the dressing room of a glamorous 1950s starlet! My eyes fell on a stunning satin gown, its shade the colour of a delicate rose petal. I'm thinking of adding a splash of this beautiful blush to my Pink Tutu wardrobe.

Dining Delight

Speaking of dreaming, Vienna's culinary scene has completely spoiled me! I had the most exquisite meal at a little cafe called “Die Kleine Wienerin”. I dined like a queen on tender schnitzel, juicy potato salad, and of course, the most amazing Apfelstrudel! And let’s not forget the warm apple strudel with creamy vanilla sauce, simply divine! I even tried a slice of Sachertorte, a classic Viennese chocolate cake, but I'm definitely sticking to my usual ballerina diet tomorrow, you can trust me on that.

Coming Soon: The Pink Tutu Waltz

My dear readers, the best is yet to come. Tomorrow, I have a grand waltz performance in the city’s most beautiful gardens. I’m planning a special routine that incorporates elements of Viennese waltz traditions and of course, some Pink Tutu flair. You won’t want to miss it!

For now, I’m off to enjoy the magic of Vienna. Until next week, remember to embrace the power of pink tutus, dance to your own beat, and always, always, live life in full bloom.

XOXO,

Your Pink Tutu.
