Pink Tutu Vienna - Post 950 - 17th July 2013: Vienna waltzing in my Pink Tutu!

Oh darling! My heart is soaring higher than a grand jeté, for I am in Vienna! The City of Music, the City of Dreams...and apparently the City of Coffee!

This week's post is bursting with pink (as ever!) but even more so as I'm in the most beautiful and glamorous city! This journey feels like I've stepped straight into a fairytale! The streets are lined with magnificent palaces and parks that bloom with vibrant colours, and the air is alive with the enchanting sound of music! Vienna has a charm that is just utterly spellbinding.

As soon as I stepped off the train, a lovely chap with a trolley approached, holding a tiny, but very exquisite, Vienna sausage (as they’re called here)! So delicious. I love a sausage, and in my experience, nothing quite compares to the quality of the meats in Europe!

Vienna is, of course, synonymous with the Waltz - such a wonderfully romantic and elegant dance. I was mesmerized as I watched couples twirling in the Hofburg Palace, the golden light of sunset painting their faces a rosy glow. I couldn’t help myself - I grabbed a charming young man's hand and gave it a whirl around the floor! He seemed to enjoy it, especially as my beautiful pink tutu flowed gracefully around me. A perfect first introduction to Viennese charm.

And you know how much I love shopping! So, it was straight to the Schottenfeld Shopping Centre to browse some local stores. Vienna has some truly unique boutiques; I picked up a divine hand-painted pink clutch - I simply can't resist a beautiful handbag. A little pink for my pink tutu ensemble!

Of course, no trip to Vienna is complete without a trip to the Vienna State Opera! Just the very name is enough to set your heart racing with excitement, isn’t it? Oh, it was exquisite! The décor, the ambiance, and of course, the music...an orchestra of heavenly strings! It truly brought the ballet world to life.

And then... drumroll please... the Vienna Ballet. These dancers are truly phenomenal, with a level of artistry and grace I’ve rarely seen before! It was such an inspiration to watch their seamless movements, a true ballet dream come true.

Speaking of dreams, it’s also important to make time for relaxation when in such a wonderful city. As the day wound down, I settled in a charming little café, sipping on a Melange, the local Vienna coffee specialty. It’s just the perfect way to finish a beautiful day - sipping on this wonderfully warm beverage while being surrounded by such stunning architecture.

Speaking of coffee, you cannot possibly leave Vienna without exploring its café culture. From the traditional "Wiener Kaffeehaus" where people gather to indulge in coffee and pastries (I found some fantastic Sachertorte there!), to the charming little coffee shops nestled amongst cobblestone streets, a trip to Vienna wouldn’t be complete without indulging in a truly heavenly cup of coffee!

For those who, like me, can’t resist the history of ballet and tutus, Vienna has plenty to offer. There’s a delightful museum dedicated to the History of Ballet, filled with rare books and paintings, which I spent an entire morning immersed in. I learnt that the first tutu was designed for the dancer Marie Taglioni in 1832 - wasn’t that a glorious moment in fashion and dance history? What an inspiration!

You’ve probably gathered by now, darlings, that this pink tutu girl is having a wonderful time here in Vienna. The city truly has something for everyone! This has to be the most romantic and graceful place on earth, and I'm finding every day here magical! The streets seem to whisper tales of waltzes, pastries, and, most importantly, of dancing tutus! I hope my trip will inspire you all to experience the magic of Vienna too.

* Until next Wednesday, remember, always be a beautiful pink tutu, dancing in your own lovely little world!*

Love always, Emma
