Vienna, my dearest! Post 949, 10th July 2013

Guten Tag, my lovely tutu-loving friends! It's Emma here, fresh from a whirl through Vienna, a city that's simply bursting with waltzing charm and a whole lot of pink-tastic history!

This week on Pink Tutu Vienna, we're waltzing our way through a city steeped in imperial grandeur, delicious pastries and, yes, even tutus! It's Wednesday, which means a new blog post on www.pink-tutu.com - your one-stop shop for all things sparkly and pink. And who knows, maybe even a little tutu-inspiration to boot!

Now, as a ballerina with a love for all things twirly, Vienna felt like coming home. From the imperial ballrooms to the cobbled streets, the very air seemed to whisper about forgotten waltzes and elegant, twirling ballerinas. Let me tell you, there's something incredibly inspiring about seeing a city where even the cobblestones seem to be calling out to you to put on your pointe shoes and do a graceful pirouette!

And you wouldn't believe what I stumbled upon yesterday. Tucked away on a cobblestone street, hidden amidst charming coffee shops and a flower stall with pink peonies that were practically begging to be worn in my hair, I discovered a tiny antique shop brimming with treasures. Amidst gilded picture frames and porcelain teacups, a whole rack of vintage tutus whispered promises of past performances. I couldn't help but pick out a powder pink, ruffled number from the 1950s that was positively screaming for a Viennese waltz. This city really is a tutu haven!

But before we get lost in the dreamy waltz of yesteryear, let's talk about this week's schedule. Vienna is simply buzzing with events! My journey began, as it often does, with a thrilling train ride. I confess I quite enjoy the journey just as much as the destination, especially when you're crossing the English Channel, where you get a stunning glimpse of the white cliffs of Dover in their morning glory. (My suggestion? Snag a window seat, folks. Trust me.)

Speaking of glimpses, Vienna offers a visual feast for every kind of visitor. Whether you're a ballet buff like me, or you find yourself drawn to a gorgeous cathedral or an elegant café, Vienna’s got something for you. On Saturday, I plan to treat myself to a Viennese waltz experience – imagine, waltzing the night away in the grand ballroom of the Hofburg Palace, adorned with beautiful chandeliers and, you guessed it, a delightful pink tutu. You can almost feel the anticipation, can't you?

Sunday's plans include the world-famous Spanish Riding School, where the majestic Lipizzaner horses are as graceful as any ballerina, especially with the impressive haute école. Seeing these majestic creatures in their elegant movements reminds me of all the hours I've spent in the ballet studio – dedication and training go hand-in-hand, whether it’s humans or horses we're talking about. Plus, who doesn't love horses, right? Especially when they wear pink (imagine, a pink saddlecloth, it’s all in the detail, you know!)

Of course, Vienna is famous for its coffee and cake – and let me tell you, you simply haven't experienced true bliss until you've enjoyed a slice of Sachertorte accompanied by a strong Vienna coffee in a traditional Viennese cafe, while watching the world go by from a window seat.

Don't even get me started on the shopping. Imagine a paradise of opulent silk fabrics, delicate porcelain dolls, and – hold your breath, dear tutu lovers – the most gorgeous selection of ballet tutus in every imaginable shade of pink. Oh, to lose yourself for hours in a fabric shop, choosing the perfect lace for a tutu, wouldn't that be simply divine? It certainly is my kind of heaven.

You see, Vienna is more than just a city. It's a swirling kaleidoscope of history, art, and a distinct kind of enchanting, slightly melancholic magic that’s perfectly captured by its timeless waltzes.

Now, before I go off and plan a waltz with my vintage pink tutu, tell me: What are your favourite things to do in Vienna? Have you discovered any secret gems that you can’t wait to share with me? Do tell! Don't forget to subscribe to www.pink-tutu.com so you don't miss any future posts about my adventures. And always remember, darling, the world is your stage. Put on your most magnificent tutu, twirl with joy and share your beautiful self with the world.

See you next Wednesday! Until then, keep twirling and stay pink!

Emma xx

P.S. For those of you eager to waltz into the Viennese waltz experience, here are a few tips from yours truly:

  • Plan your trip: The most popular time to visit is during the summer, and tickets sell out quickly.
  • Choose your dress wisely: The best part is dressing up! A fabulous, twirly, tulle tutu (pink of course!) is a must for a proper waltz. Don't forget a glitzy hair accessory or two – nothing's too sparkly for a waltz, darling!
    • Embrace the Viennese waltz: Even if you're not a seasoned waltzer, just close your eyes and let the music carry you away! A good waltz can transport you to another time.

Now go out and make your own fairy tale memories, my dearest tutu-lovers!

P.P.S. Don’t forget to keep an eye out for my newest pink tutu dress coming soon to the www.pink-tutu.com shop! Just think of all the twirls and waltzes we'll do together! It will be a must have for any tutu lover, I can promise you!

And remember, darlings, a little pink never hurts!

xx
