Pink Tutu Vienna: A Whirlwind of Waltz & Wonder, Post 993

Wednesday, 14th May 2014

Guten Tag, my darlings! Welcome to another magical week in Pink Tutu Vienna. I’m buzzing with excitement - my toes are tapping, and my pink tutu is twirling with delight, because Vienna truly is a haven for ballerinas! And, of course, every true ballerina knows Vienna’s a must-see. As a little girl in Derbyshire, I would dream of swirling through the grand ballrooms, wearing the most magnificent tutus, just like the legendary dancers who’d graced the stage here. Now, I get to live my dreams – how incredible is that?!

I love traveling by train, you know, gliding through countryside and cities, it's like a ballet in itself. And, let's be honest, every journey looks more magical with a pink tutu, don’t you think? So, of course, my journey from Prague was an enchanting ride!

A Stroll through the Viennese Ballet Past:

Vienna’s Ballet history is legendary, with so much to explore. On Monday, I began my ballet explorations with a delightful visit to the Vienna State Opera House – a majestic, sprawling palace dedicated to the performing arts. It’s utterly breathtaking – think towering arches, sparkling chandeliers, and ornate detailing.

Imagine waltzing in these gilded halls, bathed in the soft glow of a hundred candles – that’s what it feels like stepping inside. It’s hard to believe that some of the world’s greatest dancers – from Anna Pavlova to Rudolf Nureyev, to the incomparable Maria Callas, have graced this very stage. I walked through the opulent backstage, feeling the echoes of countless rehearsals, the anticipation of opening nights, the energy of dancers ready to perform their hearts out.

A must-see, no question! They offer daily guided tours, so it's easy to peek behind the curtain and be transported back in time, seeing the elaborate costumes, studying the historical photos, and catching a glimpse of the grand theatre itself, a testament to the power of dance. It’s an absolute must for any ballerina’s bucket list.

Dancing with the Viennese Masters:

On Tuesday, I ventured into the world of Viennese waltzes! The Vienna State Ballet gave an exhilarating performance of “La Bayadère,” and, oh, the grace! Every dancer was a vision of precision, passion, and breathtaking beauty, making my heart swell with inspiration. The movements were so intricate, so elegant - like ribbons dancing in the wind.

After the show, I was lucky enough to grab a coffee with a former dancer, a Viennese woman called Maria. She shared stories of her days at the Vienna State Opera House, from her early training to performing in grand premieres. It’s amazing how so many great dancers find their roots in this city. She also revealed a secret for finding those truly unique pink tutus! There's a little shop just outside the Opera House called "Le Ballerine," and they have an extraordinary selection of tutus. They even make them to order!

Tutu Adventures in the Shopping Streets:

The city is a fashion lover’s dream. Everywhere you turn, there are beautiful boutiques with an eclectic mix of clothes. My pink tutu is never out of place, you know – I’ve found it truly embraces the Vienna chic. The Viennese style, you see, is all about timeless elegance and beautiful design, which complements the elegance of ballet so well.

A Horseback Ride Through the Heart of Vienna:

And, what would a Vienna visit be without a ride through the famous Vienna Woods? This was something on my list, and boy, it was absolutely magnificent! Riding on a magnificent steed, I glided past rolling hills and lush forests, catching a glimpse of the enchanting city unfolding beneath me. This truly felt like stepping out of a fairytale. It’s a different kind of dance, for sure – more of a graceful gallop than a pirouette – but no less beautiful!

Dress the Part:

Speaking of which, my Pink Tutu is a real Vienna delight! To complete the picture of Viennese style, I purchased a stunning pink and cream velvet shawl with intricate floral embroidery from a tiny, quirky boutique. Now, I just need a matching hat, maybe one with some ostrich feathers and a pink flower – to make my Vienna fashion game complete! Of course, the real star of the show, the pink tutu , will be front and centre for the photoshoot – after all, that's my aim – pink tutus for everyone! We are strong, confident, graceful. It's time to unleash our inner ballerina!

Follow my adventures through Vienna every Wednesday! And be sure to follow my socials, @PinkTutuVienna , for updates and tutu-inspired fun! I can’t wait to hear your thoughts!

Until next week, darlings, let your dreams take flight!

Yours truly, Emma, Pink Tutu Vienna.
