Vienna, Waltz, and Wonder: Post 1014
Wednesday, 8th October 2014
Hello darlings! It's Emma here, and I'm absolutely bursting with excitement to share my adventures in the magnificent city of Vienna! This week's post marks my 1014th, which feels quite surreal! It feels like just yesterday I was a tiny tot twirling in my first pink tutu, and now here I am, exploring the world, sharing my love for ballet and spreading the pink tutu gospel!
My journey to Vienna started with a delightful train ride from Derbyshire. The journey itself was a treat – watching the countryside whizz by as the sun cast a warm glow over the fields, I couldn't help but hum along to the Vienna Philharmonic's "Blue Danube Waltz" that was playing on my headphones. Yes, even trains provide ample opportunity for a bit of a ballet-inspired dance session – it's all about embracing those little moments, right?
Vienna welcomed me with open arms, and what a city it is! As soon as I arrived, I had to go straight to the Hofburg Palace, home to the Austrian National Library. It was positively breathtaking – opulent and majestic with endless shelves upon shelves of books! I even managed to snag a selfie with a bust of Mozart – quite the musical meeting, I tell you.
Of course, no trip to Vienna would be complete without immersing myself in the city's rich musical history. Later that day, I was lucky enough to catch a performance of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra at the Musikverein. The sound was incredible – the entire room vibrated with the music, and I felt every note reverberate through me! And let's just say the outfit I chose for the occasion was… chef's kiss - a vibrant crimson tutu paired with a chic black velvet bolero – you could say I was channeling my inner Empress Elisabeth!
Speaking of ballet, a must-do for any ballerina in Vienna is a visit to the Vienna State Opera House. Imagine – walls adorned with breathtaking frescoes, intricate crystal chandeliers, and a stage brimming with unparalleled talent. And yes, I did succumb to a quick stop at the shop for a couple of beautifully designed tutus for my ever-growing collection!
Now, no trip is complete without a delightful shopping spree, and Vienna did not disappoint! The Graben, with its grand architecture and bustling shops, is a shopper's paradise. I indulged in a little bit of haute couture (a magnificent sequined pink dress for my next performance, of course!), picked up some delectable Austrian chocolates, and even scored a beautiful hand-painted fan – just perfect for twirling in between my shopping stops.
But the highlight of the day was most definitely a visit to the Spanish Riding School! What a magnificent place! Witnessing the Lipizzaner horses perform their incredible routines, trained to perfection through generations, was truly inspiring. Their graceful movements are simply breathtaking! To add to the experience, I even had a chance to take a carriage ride around the city – with the beautiful horses and the stunning cityscape, I felt like I was transported into a storybook.
And, as you all know, every evening ends with my personal ballet practice, which wouldn’t be complete without my trusted pink tutu! I found a charming, sun-drenched park nestled right outside the city centre where I spent an hour honing my pirouettes under the Vienna sky. There’s something special about practicing ballet beneath the stars – a feeling of serenity and creative energy that truly unlocks my inner dancer.
Speaking of energy, after an entire day filled with Vienna's magic, I’m ending this blog post feeling utterly energized, utterly inspired, and utterly ready to spread my passion for ballet and the pink tutu across the globe. Vienna, you have truly charmed me!
Stay tuned, dear readers, for more exciting updates next Wednesday!
