Vienna Calling! #PinkTutuVienna Post 1078 - 30th December 2015

Oh darling, it's time to put the kettle on and grab a slice of Victoria sponge – this week's post from Vienna is bursting with exciting details, sparkly sequins and, of course, pink tutus! It’s me, Emma, from www.pink-tutu.com, your fellow fashionista and dance devotee, bringing you my weekly dose of Viennese escapades!

Now, before I gush about all the wonders of the waltz capital, I've got a secret confession - it's New Year's Eve Eve! (That's what they call it in my lovely Derbyshire, anyway!) As I sit in the most beautiful, pinkest, ahem I mean, charmingly pastel, hotel room (seriously, they’ve got the best shade of blush!) with my hot cocoa warming my fingers and Vienna’s glittering lights twinkling outside my window, it feels surreal. But then I remind myself, this is my life.

Vienna, oh Vienna! You’ve stolen my heart. This magical city has embraced me with open arms – or shall I say, waltz-loving arms? This place practically pulsates with music and grandeur.

My arrival last week felt like stepping into a waltzing dream. I took the train (my absolute favourite form of transport! So romantic, don't you think? It's a chance to admire the world go by and write my blog!) and instantly fell in love with Vienna's unique character. Everywhere I go, there are magnificent buildings, bustling markets overflowing with the most stunning handicrafts, and of course, the sweetest coffee I've ever tasted! And what's more, they adore tutus! The local dance studios are a veritable rainbow of tutus! They just get my vision.

And what better place to indulge a tutu obsession than Vienna, where waltz history, dress-making traditions and elegant dance steps intertwine like a graceful pas de deux?

My Week in Vienna: Pink Tutu-tastic Adventures

Monday: The very first day, I discovered this little boutique called Boutique La Rosette, where they actually made me my own bespoke pink tutu! Yes! Custom-made just for me. A shimmering, flowing masterpiece made from softest tulle and adorned with the prettiest sequins. I felt like a princess right out of a ballet! It was simply divine. You bet I’ve already ordered another in lavender, and then another in sky blue… I may just be starting a full-on colour revolution. And of course, my blog was updated with all the exciting details!

Tuesday: To say that I was captivated by the Schönbrunn Palace would be an understatement! I mean, imagine: this vast royal palace was home to Emperor Franz Joseph I. He reigned for nearly 70 years! And the palace gardens? A wonderland of colour, fountains, and breathtaking sculptures! Oh darling, you’d simply die for the sheer amount of inspiration for future blog posts I discovered here! I simply had to stop and twirl a little bit, don’t you agree?

Wednesday: No week in Vienna is complete without a trip to the Vienna State Opera. My dear friends, the performances are like nothing I’ve ever seen. The singing was sublime, the costumes were exquisite, and I just about melted when the orchestra started the overture. They do such a good job, the entire performance was simply stunning, and there are ballet and dance performances alongside opera throughout the year. You must book tickets online in advance to make sure you get seats as they're usually sold out. I was so moved I forgot all about my new blog post for this day! Oops!

Thursday: What is better than the Wiener Staatsoper (the Vienna State Opera) for an evening of classical ballet? Why, it’s the Ballettschule Wien, of course! (That’s German for the Vienna School of Ballet!) It’s the biggest and oldest ballet school in Vienna! As an aficionado of all things ballet-related, I absolutely had to pay a visit and soak in all the graceful steps and lovely leotards. They even had a fabulous boutique next door with tutus to die for – perfect for the dancer in my heart. It's right by the Hofburg Palace – simply stunning. I think this calls for another blog post next week.

Friday: Vienna is famous for its coffee and, of course, I had to partake in this cultural experience! There's a coffeehouse tradition that makes every coffee into an event. So elegant! And where else would a ballerina go for a delicious Kaffee mit Schlag (that’s coffee with whipped cream) than Café Central, Vienna's most famous cafe? Now, darling, you can’t even imagine the delicate cakes, pastries and strudel! And let’s not forget those charming waitresses – I had a lovely chat with one about ballet, it seems the passion for dance is just as strong here in Vienna! Oh, my friends, my Instagram is already buzzing with photos of all those delightful treats!

Saturday: You won’t believe this, but I’ve fallen in love with a horse-drawn carriage. Imagine me in my pink tutu, surrounded by Viennese charm. I took a tour and soaked in the atmosphere of historic Vienna. I swear, there were several couples who saw me and almost waltzed in the street!

Sunday: And for my final full day in Vienna, a must-see – the Vienna Opera House itself. Vienna State Opera House! You just must go inside and admire its opulent details, dazzling chandeliers, and glorious acoustics. It’s even more magnificent in person than it is in photographs. Honestly, this entire building should be declared a pink tutu shrine – if I could, I would! I almost had to restrain myself from striking a pose. I will admit that my selfie has almost 3,000 likes on Instagram so far, not bad for a quick shot on my phone.

So, my darling readers…

As I finish writing this post from my Vienna hotel room, I must admit – it’s with a little twinge of sadness that I leave Vienna. This truly is a magical city, and my journey to find my perfect tutu, visit the Ballet School and dance across the dancing city, has been filled with adventure and delight. Vienna, you will forever have a special place in my heart. And darling, you can bet I’ll be back!

As for the New Year, my friends, let's all embrace the twirl. Let's make every day a graceful dance with beautiful, stylish and fun tutus. And you know what? I’m always looking for tutu lovers to join my #pinktutu community. So share your pics, tell me about your experiences, and always, always remember: Life is simply better in a tutu!

Much love,
Emma xx
