Pink Tutu Vienna: Ballet & Buns in the Beautiful Austrian Capital (Post #1079)
Hello my darling darlings! It's Wednesday again, and you know what that means - time for another Pink Tutu Vienna post! I'm typing this from my cosy little Vienna hotel room, all snuggled in my pink silk pyjamas (you didn't think I'd be in a tutu while writing, did you? Well, maybe just a little pink tutu, tied at the waist over my pjs... but that's just between us!)
This week has been a whirlwind of waltzes and pastries - oh, Vienna, you're such a delight! My latest escapade was a journey to the Schönbrunn Palace. I know what you're thinking, "Emma, haven't you been to this palace a million times?" Yes, but you see, my dear reader, I have this terrible obsession with history, specifically, tutu history.
Remember, we talked about that famous pink tutu worn by the legendary ballerina Anna Pavlova back in 1909? (Post #732, for you newbies). Well, guess what?! They had an original garment on display at Schönbrunn. And not just any garment... a pair of Pavlova's original ballet shoes!! I swear, my heart did a little pirouette right there! It felt like a magic spell had been cast, whispering to me from across the ages. Just imagining those beautiful, tiny feet gliding across the stage, wearing those shoes. Shivers!
Oh, and I nearly forgot about the delicious pastry. They say you haven't truly lived until you've tried a Viennese apple strudel - and, my lovelies, they were right! A perfect pastry harmony of flaky, sweet dough, spiced apple filling, and a delicious buttery crumb topping. I'm starting to suspect the Austrians have some kind of magical pastry fairy working her charms on these delectable creations... because no one, and I mean no one, could possibly create such amazing cakes by accident!
Before I indulge in a little afternoon treat à la Viennoise (can't resist! 😉 ), let me tell you about my other Viennese highlights this week.
Ballet, Fashion, & That Magical Pink TutuSpeaking of magical spells, The Vienna State Opera is where the magic truly happens, you guys. Last night was simply divine. Imagine... a lush, grand opera house, plush velvet seats, breathtaking chandelier lighting, and the most magnificent production of Giselle I have ever witnessed.
The whole thing was truly magical, especially those pirouettes, which just seem effortless here, like they were created for this very stage... which, come to think of it, might not be too far from the truth, as ballet was born in the Austrian Imperial court. But then again, maybe it's just that every Viennese ballet dancer has a sprinkle of magic dust tucked away in their pointe shoes!
After the opera, of course, a bit of a post-performance dress-up was absolutely in order! We went to Vienna's most charming little vintage clothing store. You see, I am on a quest to collect a vintage tutu for every colour in the rainbow, and while the pink tutu is my go-to, sometimes you just need to mix it up with a little teal or emerald green... for variety's sake, you know! 😉
After browsing the aisles, and trying on more frocks than I care to admit (I swear, my credit card has a permanent address here, just in case it ever feels like leaving ...it would never actually leave, of course), I stumbled across a gem!: a teal tulle tutu with pearl embellishments. It was meant to be! I think my eyes lit up like a Christmas tree... and for good reason! This is truly a collector's item, a perfect match for my Vienna adventures - you'll just have to see the photos when I upload them later this evening!
Train Tracks & Horses - a Fairytale Trip to SalzburgNow, I mentioned travelling by horse earlier... I'm so excited about sharing that part! Salzburg, the magical birthplace of Mozart, has captured my heart! I took a beautiful scenic train ride (of course in my pink tutu, you know I never miss an opportunity to wear pink!), arriving to a snowy landscape as picturesque as a Christmas card. Then came the horses! Imagine riding through snow-covered forests, feeling the cold, fresh air on your face... oh, a truly unforgettable experience! (I can already imagine a perfect post-ride treat: a salzburg schnitzel - don't worry, it'll definitely be a whole other blog post about this magical city - it's just too much for one! 😉 )
Oh, I nearly forgot the most crucial detail... of course I wore pink in Salzburg! You can't go to such a fairytale-like place and not embrace your inner princess. Think sparkly pink ballet shoes, a pink fur scarf* *wrapped around my neck, and a fluffy pink feather boa... and for a finishing touch, a pink beret, for that added *je ne sais quoi chic-factor. *
Let me tell you, darling, I received more compliments that day than I ever have in my life!, especially from the Austrian horse breeders, who clearly know the * *value * of a well-chosen pink accessory!* I think I may just turn Salzburg into my personal fairytale playground... just need to figure out a way to convince the local Schnitzel-Fairy to bake a few *extra-special Schnitzel for me, and my mission is accomplished!😉
Don't forget to visit www.pink-tutu.com and keep those lovely pink tutus ready for my next travel post!Until then, stay sparkly, darlings! 💕
Love, Emma xxx
