Pink Tutu Vienna: Blog Post #1134 – Waltz into Winter Wonderland!

Hello darlings! It's your favourite pink-tutu-wearing, waltz-loving Emma, reporting live from Vienna, Austria! The city of music, the city of waltzes, the city of... you guessed it - tutus! Oh, Vienna, you steal my heart every time.

This week, I've been waltzing through winter wonderland. The air is crisp, the cobblestone streets gleam, and Vienna’s majestic buildings are adorned in a frosting of snow. And, wouldn't you know it, my heart just skipped a beat when I saw the window display of a little boutique I’d been meaning to check out – every single item was in a fabulous shade of pink!

Speaking of fabulous pink, I've had a wonderful time at the Vienna State Opera House. The stunning architecture alone is a treat for the eyes, and the performances are breathtaking! This week, I witnessed the magic of Giselle - a romantic and tragic tale that left me completely mesmerized.

It made me wonder - what would the story be if Giselle was wearing a pink tutu? Maybe it would have added a bit more lightness and hope to the ballet. Or perhaps it would have accentuated the delicate femininity of her character, creating an entirely new dimension to the classic story. Maybe that's an idea for a future post - Giselle: The Pink Tutu Edition!

A Little Trip Down Tutu Memory Lane

Speaking of tutus, this week's little historical journey takes us back to the beginnings of this fabulous garment. It's been a staple of ballet for centuries, but did you know that the tutu actually wasn't a tutu to start with? Originally, ballerinas wore skirts with a few layers of tulle just above the knee. It wasn't until the late 1800s, thanks to the iconic dancer Marie Taglioni, that the Romantic Tutu, or tutu romantique was born. This elegant skirt, designed to showcase the dancers' delicate movement, had a romantic and airy silhouette. The Romantic Tutu would inspire a variety of tutu styles in the following years, with designs being ever-evolving throughout history. And we can certainly say, there's a tutu style for every kind of occasion!

But let's face it, you don't need to be a ballet dancer to wear a pink tutu. My aim is to inspire you, darling, to let loose, have fun, and be bold. I believe the world would be a happier place if everyone wore a pink tutu. And honestly, what better time to start than on a snowy Wednesday afternoon in Vienna?

Taking to the Streets - Vienna Street Style

Of course, there are other ways to express your inner tutu queen besides rocking a tutu on the street. Vienna, oh, how I adore you! With the Christmas Markets long gone and a frosty air in the air, I’ve been exploring the charming, cobblestone streets of the Inner Stadt (the inner city). It’s filled with traditional shops with enchanting window displays and quaint cafés tucked into nooks and crannies. And the locals, oh, the locals!

I've been noticing the delightful trend of incorporating ballet-inspired fashion into everyday looks. This week, I've seen many beautiful Viennese ladies rocking elegant, knee-length ballet skirts with chunky knit sweaters. And can you believe they even wear elegant ballet flats in the snow! The audacity, darling!

My own personal style has definitely evolved since moving to Vienna. I find myself drawn to more vintage pieces, with lace, satin, and all the things that make me feel like a ballerina queen. It’s all about incorporating those vintage touches, with my favourite pops of pink, of course. I am sure I've started to spread the tutu-loving message here - some ladies in Vienna now give me that look – a mix of surprise, appreciation, and a dash of envy when they see me twirling around in my pink tulle.

The Horse-Drawn Carriage Ride – A Truly Romantic Experience

To continue on my magical Viennese adventure, I booked myself a horse-drawn carriage ride through the heart of the city. It was a truly enchanting experience. The clip-clop of horses' hooves against the cobblestone, the gentle sway of the carriage, and the view of the snow-covered cityscape - all came together to create a magical experience that felt like stepping back in time. And what did I wear for this occasion? Naturally, a pink tutu. This isn’t just any tutu - it’s my latest creation, made of the softest tulle with shimmering details. And I, for one, believe it perfectly matched the elegance and magic of the city.

I truly believe there's no place quite like Vienna. It's a city where history, culture, and beauty are interwoven into every cobblestone.

Until Next Week!

My dear pink tutu followers, I must rush off! Tonight, I have a wonderful invitation to attend the grand opening of a new dance studio here in Vienna. You’d better believe I will be sharing the latest pink tutu style trends and reporting back next week with my observations.

See you all next Wednesday for another fantastic adventure from Vienna!

Yours always, Emma
