Hello, darlings! It's Wednesday, which means it's time for another Pink Tutu Vienna adventure! This week I'm twirling my way through the cobbled streets of Vienna, a city that feels like it stepped straight out of a fairy tale. From the grand architecture to the melodic waltzes echoing in the air, Vienna has an irresistible charm. I wouldn't be surprised if I spot Cinderella making her way to the palace ball any minute!
Speaking of palaces, I started my day with a visit to the magnificent Schönbrunn Palace, a breathtaking example of Baroque grandeur. Imagine acres of manicured gardens, golden-hued fountains, and ornate rooms that make you feel like you've stumbled into a painting by Canaletto.
And, of course, no trip to Vienna is complete without a visit to the world-renowned Vienna State Opera House. This magnificent building is a temple to art and beauty, its history steeped in legendary performances and captivating narratives. I must confess, I squealed with delight when I caught a glimpse of the famous "Phantom of the Opera" chandelier glittering above me, just like in the musical!
Viennaâs Waltz-ing History
Vienna is more than just beautiful architecture; itâs a place steeped in ballet history. The city was, after all, home to the iconic ballerina Anna Pavlova. While visiting, I wandered past the majestic Vienna Opera House where she dazzled audiences for a season with her performance in âThe Dying Swanâ (more on this, I promise!) I imagine the air crackling with excitement as the audience breathlessly watched her perform. Such a powerful connection to the past.
And how could I resist popping into a local ballet studio? As I sat watching young aspiring ballerinas practice their pirouettes, I felt a surge of inspiration. It was a beautiful sight, these girlsâ youthful enthusiasm and dedication. This cityâs love for ballet is woven into the very fabric of its being.
Shopping in a Sea of Pink
Okay, I admit, my first thought when I arrived in Vienna was âWhere will I find my perfect pink tutu?â Luckily, I havenât been disappointed! The shopping here is divine, especially if youâre after chic European fashion. The streets are lined with vintage shops, independent boutiques, and of course, luxury designers. I already have my sights set on a new ballerina dress from one of Viennaâs up-and-coming designers, complete with delicate lace and a romantic blush-pink hue!
I've been doing my best to soak up the Viennese charm, whether it's wandering through the colourful Naschmarkt, enjoying a traditional Viennese coffee (and a delicious Sachertorte!) at a local café, or trying to navigate the enchanting Prater amusement park.
Riding High on the Spirit of Vienna
And, of course, I had to indulge in my favourite form of transport: a horse-drawn carriage! It was a magical experience, gliding through the cobblestone streets, with the scent of horsehair mingling with the crisp Viennese air. A truly unforgettable moment!
This weekend, Iâm going to experience Vienna from a whole new angle by hopping on one of the vintage trams for a tour of the city. Then, of course, thereâs the delicious Viennese coffee and cake! And, oh yes, I'll be spending the evening watching a spectacular ballet performance - a special treat I wouldnât want to miss.
Until next week, dear friends!
Stay pink,
Emma xoxo
