Vienna Calling! My Pink Tutu Adventure in the City of Music (Post #1331)

Hello darlings! Emma here, your favourite pink tutu-wearing, ballet-obsessed travel blogger. I'm so excited to share my adventures from Vienna, a city that truly lives up to its name – The City of Music!

It’s Wednesday again, which means it’s time for my weekly blog post! And oh my, Vienna is everything I dreamed it would be. From the grand, glittering opera house to the cobbled streets lined with baroque palaces, Vienna oozes romance, history, and of course, culture – a delightful mix that I'm absolutely smitten with.

I travelled here by train, the carriages gleaming like carriages pulled by unicorns (a little exaggeration, maybe, but the comfort of the train was simply divine!). I even got to wear my brand-new pink tutu – a dream in silk and feathers, designed by a young artist in Derbyshire. This week's look is all about elegance, so I paired my tutu with a white cashmere sweater, a chic little pink hat with a jaunty feather, and pearl earrings my grandmother gifted me. It's the perfect ensemble for a day filled with waltz melodies and exploring history!

Tutu Tuesdays at the Hofburg

The first stop on my Vienna agenda was the Hofburg Palace. It was originally the imperial residence of the Habsburg dynasty and has a history rich with grand ballrooms, waltzes, and, of course, beautiful ballerinas.

I was lucky enough to visit on a special 'Tutu Tuesday' where, to my delight, they host a ‘Dance of the Empress’ event with beautiful dancers in stunning historical tutus. Can you imagine the sheer spectacle? They glided through the palace rooms, recreating scenes of Viennese royal life from the 1800s! My inner ballerina squealed with delight – It felt as if I had been whisked away back in time.

My own tutu definitely attracted a few curious looks and a lot of "Oh, so chic!" whispers, making the whole experience even more wonderful. I even managed to snag a picture with one of the ballerinas – you can be sure I'll be framing that one!

Opera House Glamour & Ballet Magic

Now, no trip to Vienna is complete without a visit to the Wiener Staatsoper, the city's opulent opera house. My eyes literally popped out of my head when I stepped inside. Imagine golden balconies draped in crimson velvet, chandeliers glittering with a thousand lights, and a stage that looked fit for royalty!

And guess what? I got to see the Sleeping Beauty ballet, a production that truly had my heart melting. The graceful movements of the dancers, the beautiful costumes, and the spellbinding music, all combined to create a theatrical experience that transported me to a world of fairytale dreams.

I even saw a couple of "Tutu Twins" in the audience sporting pink tutus. It's a small world! This is what I love so much about the world of ballet: the community of those who love the art, no matter what their age or background.

Vienna Fashion and the Pink Tutu Power

Now, you can’t talk about Vienna without mentioning fashion, darlings. I've been indulging in a little retail therapy and, let me tell you, Vienna has so many charming boutiques. I discovered a tiny shop tucked away in the city centre called "Die Schmetterling" - literally translated as "The Butterfly" - a treasure trove of vintage clothing and exquisite hats. And let me tell you, their pink selection is out of this world! I even found a new tutu, in a delicate pastel pink shade with delicate rose embroidery.

And remember my motto? “The world needs more pink tutus!" And Vienna certainly loves pink tutus as much as I do. While walking through the bustling Naschmarkt, I even spotted a street artist using pink tutus as part of his installation. Who knows, perhaps pink tutus will be the new haute couture soon!

Coffee, Culture & the Charm of the Locals

As a special treat, I indulged in Viennese coffee. Have you tried their Sachertorte? A chocolate dream! My heart practically sang as I savored the warm, deliciousness alongside a Viennese waltzing song playing in the background. What a moment!

Speaking of moments, what has struck me most about Vienna is its people. They’re so kind, so polite, so full of joie de vivre. And their love for culture, history, and yes, pink tutus, is palpable. I think I might just move here one day, you know?

Horses & Happiness – Riding Through the Streets of Vienna

And of course, I couldn't leave Vienna without experiencing the city in a unique way – on horseback! I found a stable just outside the city where I got to spend the morning riding through the stunning Schönbrunn Palace gardens. It felt like something out of a fairytale. I had the wind in my hair, the sun on my face, and my pink tutu swirling around me - what more could a girl ask for?

Pink Tutu Reflections: Finding the Magic in Every Moment

As the sun sets on Vienna, I reflect on all that this enchanting city has given me. I've learned so much about ballet history, about music and culture, about fashion and most importantly, the magic that lies in a well-chosen pink tutu.

Vienna, I'll be back. You’ve made a space for pink tutus in my heart! And until next time, darling readers, I encourage you to seek out your own magical adventures. Maybe you'll even find a pink tutu adventure around the corner, just waiting to be discovered!
