Pink Tutu Vienna: Whirlwind Wednesday - Post #1342!

Guten Tag, darling readers! 🩰 Emma here, back from my Vienna adventures and oh my goodness, what a whirlwind it’s been! This week’s journey is all about finding the perfect balance between the glamorous and the traditional. And who better to show you around than a pink tutu-wearing ballerina with a passion for Vienna's historical treasures?

As usual, I made my way here by train, settling into a carriage where I felt like a princess - even managed to snag a seat next to a lovely gentleman who wore the most charming, albeit slightly old-fashioned, velvet suit! We spent the journey discussing Vienna’s legendary operatic heritage and the fascinating history of dance. It turns out he was a ballet fanatic himself, even more excited than me to see the famed Vienna State Opera.

Once in Vienna, my darling Pink Tutu took center stage at the most beautiful coffee shop – you know, the kind with velvet chairs and chandeliers – as I indulged in a glorious slice of Sachertorte. The perfect fuel for my upcoming adventure: a whirlwind tour of Vienna’s finest dance institutions.

First on the agenda: a pilgrimage to the Vienna State Opera House. My darling Pink Tutu and I literally gasped when we walked through those grand doors – the sheer size of it, the opulent décor, and the aura of magic just swirling around us!

Inside, the opera house felt like a giant gilded cage, brimming with passion and energy. The perfect setting to understand the grandeur of Vienna’s operatic heritage, which has been flourishing for centuries. We found ourselves enthralled by the stunning Imperial Stage, where many of history’s most renowned dancers and singers have taken their bows.

Now, you’d be surprised how much Vienna loves its ballerinas. After my morning at the opera, I went to one of the city’s top ballet studios - The Vienna State Ballet School! Imagine rows upon rows of young, aspiring ballerinas, practising their pirouettes and plies in these beautiful halls!

I got to observe a master class in pointe work, which was simply breathtaking. Even as I’ve been dancing for years, these young stars have made me seriously re-evaluate my own arabesques! I just love the sheer dedication, talent and ambition they all displayed - truly inspiring.

As dusk began to descend, I ventured to Vienna’s historical centre, to the Burgtheater. Here, in the heart of the city, stood another impressive piece of history – a place that’s witnessed countless theatrical performances over the centuries! Even I, a tutu-clad ballerina, couldn't help but feel a bit dazzled by its regal grandeur.

And let’s not forget the shopping! The charming shops and boulevards of Vienna, lined with chic fashion houses and little boutiques - each a haven for a tutu-loving girl like me. And, darling readers, you simply can’t imagine how much pink I discovered! The perfect shade to match my Pink Tutu, of course!

As the sun dipped below the horizon, I was feeling all that the Viennese waltz is renowned for. Elegant, romantic and oh-so-graceful. Just like my own little Pink Tutu journey! Vienna, with its stunning architecture and rich historical dance heritage, truly captured my heart.

This week’s adventure made me want to whirl and pirouette even more! And don’t forget, my darling readers - you don't have to be a professional dancer to enjoy the grace and beauty of ballet.

This Saturday, I’m catching the Vienna State Ballet's performance of Swan Lake – just my kind of night.

For all my ballet fanatics, make sure you head to www.viennaconcerts.com - this site lists all the performances taking place throughout the year, in the most beautiful locations. Whether it's ballet, opera, or classical music, Vienna offers an unforgettable experience!

Until next week, stay glamorous and keep those tutus twirling!

XOXO Emma 🩰
