Vienna, My Love! Post 1349 - A Pink Tutu's Journey

Oh darling, what a week it's been! I’ve been waltzing my way through the magical city of Vienna, where history and beauty swirl together like a beautiful, grand ballet. This week's post is dedicated to everything that makes Vienna so utterly enchanting - think grand architecture, charming coffee shops, and the unmistakable scent of freshly baked strudel!

Now, let’s talk about Tutus!

There’s nothing quite like the feeling of a light and fluffy tutu swirling around you. In Vienna, the tutu isn't just an outfit; it’s a way of life. It reflects a passion for artistry and elegance. It was actually here in Vienna that tutus started making their grand debut in ballet history - just another reason for me to fall deeper in love with this city.

Today, as I strolled along the cobbled streets of the Innere Stadt (inner city), I spotted a captivating display of vintage costumes in a shop window, complete with shimmering sequins and the most exquisite tulle. My heart did a little pirouette, it truly was a ballerina’s dream! I knew I had to investigate further, so I popped in and found a little treasure: a gorgeous, blush pink tutu from the 1920s. I snagged it for a steal and couldn’t wait to try it on, imagining myself twirling on a stage bathed in the warm glow of stage lights. The vintage tutu fit perfectly, it's a touch of history that will be a perfect addition to my tutu collection.

On the train:

The journey to Vienna was simply divine. A comfy train ride allows me to fully appreciate the scenic countryside. As we sped past lush green fields and quaint villages, I indulged in my favourite pastimes: people-watching and daydreaming about all the delicious Viennese treats that awaited me. It was a real escape, you know? Just me, my trusty pink tutu (my current travelling one is a lovely shade of lavender!), and the rhythm of the train wheels against the tracks, my very own travelling waltz!

Performances & Inspiration:

Last night I finally saw a performance at the Vienna State Opera. The ballet "Giselle" left me spellbound. The ethereal choreography, the dramatic costumes, the sheer passion of the dancers - everything was just perfect. I felt like I was swept away to another world. Of course, I had my pink tutu on - it would be unpardonable to attend such an event in any other attire!

I’m a firm believer in inspiration being found everywhere, and it’s easy to be inspired in Vienna! Everywhere you look, the beauty of the architecture, the elegant people, the charming cafes, and the atmosphere itself is a breath of fresh air. Just walking around the city streets with my camera is a form of inspiration, taking pictures of buildings, cafes, and my lovely outfits, capturing everything through the lens of my camera!

Vienna is filled with stunning architecture and stunning examples of art deco! For a fashionable pink tutu wearer, a trip to this city was an absolute must! Just today I was drawn to the Hofburg Palace. A perfect location to explore, taking in the imperial grandeur, admiring the ornate rooms and the magnificent gardens, and envisioning how they might look under the dancing lights of a grand ball! The beautiful and inspiring atmosphere makes for excellent photographic opportunities.

Finding Inspiration - The Coffee Shops of Vienna:

And talking about photography, how could I possibly write a blog about Vienna without mentioning the legendary coffee houses? My love affair with coffee began back home in Derbyshire, when my dear mother would make me cups of rich coffee with whipped cream and sprinkles every Friday morning. As I explored Vienna, I took time to sink into the charming world of Viennese coffee shops. The coffee is so decadent. The experience is all part of the "cafe culture." A true Viennese experience includes delicious coffee and beautiful pastries and cake. These quaint spots offer not just caffeine, but a whole world of cultural and literary inspiration. There’s something magical about the soft light streaming through the windows, the smell of freshly brewed coffee beans, and the clatter of spoons against porcelain cups - a wonderful sensory overload for any ballet aficionado. You simply cannot resist capturing the essence of each shop in photographs.

A Love Letter to Vienna

There's so much I could say about Vienna - it's a city where the past and present gracefully intertwine, where history meets artistry in the most exquisite way. My stay here feels like a dreamy fairytale, but it's a fairy tale that I hope I will get to return to again and again! Every corner I turn, there is something enchanting to be discovered. So, whether you're an avid ballet enthusiast, a lover of architecture, a coffee connoisseur, or simply a person who appreciates beauty in its many forms, Vienna is sure to steal your heart, just as it has stolen mine.

Now, I can't wait to tell you all about my grand plans for next week.
