Pink Tutu Vienna - Post 1361: Waltz into Vienna, darling!

Hello my lovelies,

It's Wednesday, so you know what that means – another instalment of your favourite pink tutu-clad travelogue, straight from the heart of Vienna! I’m back from a whirlwind of tutus, tiaras, and top-notch theatre, and believe me, this city is living up to its fairytale reputation.

My trip here was the ultimate Cinderella moment: I actually arrived by horse-drawn carriage. Yes, you heard that right! The driver was an absolute gentleman and he looked positively dashing in his traditional livery – like something straight out of a Christmas card.

Travel Tips for the Tutu-Loving Traveler

After the enchanting arrival, it was straight to my grand hotel – all high ceilings, ornate chandeliers, and a sense of grandeur that made me feel like royalty myself. You’d be surprised how often a touch of pink helps soften the opulent look of these old-world places, and, as you know, I love bringing a touch of the pink into every location I visit.

Of course, you’re all itching to hear about the shows, darling! I’ve been making the most of Vienna’s vibrant theatre scene, indulging in an incredible production of Giselle at the Staatsoper - such phenomenal talent, exquisite costumes, and the choreography was breathtaking - absolutely flawless. Honestly, the whole performance was so powerful that it left me spellbound, but not before I'd done a little pre-show spotting on the glamorous theatre crowd!

Fashion and Footwear – Ballet Street Style in Vienna

Talking about glamour – Vienna’s fashion scene is something else. You wouldn’t believe the elegant gowns and sophisticated styles that swirl through the streets! And don’t even get me started on the shoes! Every step seemed like a catwalk with the ladies rocking elegant heels and dainty flats. I may have snuck in a little window-shopping spree to fuel my own wardrobe, but let’s not talk about that just yet – my dear purse won’t forgive me just yet! It’s amazing how often a classic little black dress or a flowing midi skirt can transform into an incredible outfit, and those Austrians know a thing or two about the art of elegance. Of course, my pink tutu found its way into my looks for a touch of whimsy, as you know I always embrace the colour!

Ballet Heaven in Vienna - The Magic of the Vienna State Opera

As I’m sure you know, the Viennese waltz is one of the most beloved dance forms in the world, and it’s everywhere here! You can feel it in the air – the elegance, the romanticism, the undeniable rhythm! I had to explore the roots of this incredible dance form, and what better place than the Staatsoper? It’s a masterpiece in its own right. Honestly, you can almost feel the history oozing from every ornate detail – a place truly steeped in art and culture. And those famous staircases – the perfect backdrop for any ballerina-in-training (even with a few decades under my belt!).

Vienna's Delicious Treats and The History of The Waltz

I've been indulging in the delightful flavours of Austria’s rich culinary scene, from Sachertorte to Wiener Schnitzel. The pastries and cakes are an absolute dream – my pink tutu doesn't even care that the calorie count might be slightly over the top.

After an absolutely delicious Käsekrainer - you’ve got to try it, darling! - and a freshly-baked Apfelstrudel, I spent some time researching the history of the waltz. Imagine – the origins of this romantic dance can be traced back to peasant dances and, as a matter of fact, many dance steps developed in Austria! I never realised how intricate this particular form of ballet can be, but it is beautiful in its simplicity, as it moves to that gorgeous, graceful rhythm. It's enough to inspire even the most novice dancer (and even me, who, if you haven’t already guessed, does happen to enjoy the art of ballet)!

Discovering History and The Magic of Horse-Drawn Carriages

I decided to take a charming horse-drawn carriage ride through the city to soak in the ambience – oh darling, what a splendid experience! You really see the city through a different lens – past the charming coffee houses and stately palaces, down the cobbled streets lined with flowers and elegant buildings – truly a fairytale come to life. And those horses, with their powerful strides, their gleaming coats, their intelligent eyes - truly magical!

I must say that Vienna has captured my heart in just a few days. From the intricate palaces, the soaring cathedrals, and the exquisite museums, to the vibrant café culture, the enchanting waltzes, and the charming horse-drawn carriages – every single moment has been a joy. I hope to show you much more of this incredible city soon, darling, and maybe share with you the story of why all women, yes, all women, should wear pink tutus at least once! But until next time, I’m off to discover more of this majestic city!

Much love,

Emma x
