Vienna Waltz - Post 1360 - Pink Tutu Vienna

Dearest followers,

This week has been a whirlwind! The energy here in Vienna is electric, a joyous waltz of history and culture swirling around me, and of course, all my favourite pink tutus! It's been a week of ballet brilliance, glamorous gowns, and (I may or may not be slightly ashamed to admit) the most delicious strudel I've ever had.

Before I take you all on my exciting adventures, let me introduce myself properly - if you're new around these parts. I'm Emma, a ballerina with a passion for pink, tutus and travel, originally hailing from the quaint, beautiful Derbyshire in England. But for now, I'm soaking up the magic of Vienna!

Vienna's Waltz Through Time

Vienna is known for its elegant architecture, enchanting waltz music, and, yes you guessed it, the legacy of ballet! From the breathtaking Hofburg Palace to the majestic Vienna State Opera House, I’ve been swirling around this historic city with a sense of sheer wonder. My travels so far have been filled with pink tutu moments - think me standing before the grand facade of the Opera House, my tutu billowing in the wind as if mimicking the graceful steps of a ballerina, and twirling like a whimsical figure amidst the manicured gardens of Schönbrunn Palace!

This city feels as if it were born in a ballet performance. Its very cobbled streets hum with the melody of waltzes from the great composers of yesteryear - think Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert, and Brahms. The atmosphere is rich with musical tradition, but it doesn't just whisper stories from the past - it bursts forth with vitality in its countless street performances. I even witnessed a fantastic performance right on the steps of the Vienna State Opera House - a young, passionate dancer dressed in a classic white tutu, swaying and spinning to a heart-rending, soulful rendition of "The Blue Danube" on a violin. Pure magic!

My Ballet Adventures in the Heart of Europe

My journey in Vienna wouldn't be complete without exploring the heart of ballet - the Vienna State Opera House! It’s one of the most magnificent opera houses I've ever seen - the interiors, oh my goodness! The grandeur, the details, the intricate artwork! And that legendary chandelier, glistening like a crown of diamonds - breathtaking!

Just a week ago, I had the incredible honour of witnessing "Swan Lake" here at the Vienna State Opera House, which was such a treat! It was the first ballet I saw as a child, so witnessing its stunning choreography and masterful execution transported me back to those dreamy days of childhood wonder.

Of course, the true essence of Vienna, for me, lies not only in the magnificent spectacles but also in the day-to-day dance of life. And there's no better place to absorb this essence than at the Hofburg Palace, the historic residence of the Habsburg Emperors. Imagine, strutting around the Emperor's gardens in my favourite pink tutu - I couldn't help but envision myself as a graceful lady-in-waiting from the pages of a fairytale!

The palace itself holds a treasure trove of treasures, but my personal highlight? The Imperial Silver Collection. This museum boasts an exquisite collection of tableware and precious objects used by the imperial family, each reflecting the extravagance and elegance of bygone eras. Each piece whispers tales of opulent dinners, elaborate balls, and the grandeur of imperial life!

Shopping Spree for the Ballerina's Soul

Who says a ballerina can't love a good shopping spree? The vibrant streets of Vienna are a kaleidoscope of boutiques and designer stores. Every shop window is a showcase of the latest fashion trends, the allure of Vienna's sophisticated elegance practically pulsing from every window display!

Of course, I couldn't resist indulging in some serious window-shopping - with a few necessary purchases, of course! A beautiful, intricately-embellished pink scarf, inspired by Vienna’s architecture, a luxurious pair of cream-coloured opera gloves, and a breathtaking, floor-length pink tulle gown that would have any ballerina twirling with delight! The last piece? A handmade pink tutu - yes, you read that right! - from a local Viennese atelier. Each layer, every intricate detail, it's an absolute masterpiece.

Tutu's and Trains

Getting around Vienna is a delight in itself! For my excursions, I've been choosing the most charming method of travel: a graceful journey aboard the S-Bahn. Each ride is a chance to admire the changing scenery, a kaleidoscope of vibrant facades, park-lined streets, and historic landmarks - all blurring by in a ballet of motion. And imagine my glee! My trusty pink travel bag, just brimming with pink tutus and accessories - it makes the train journey feel like a ballet itself!

My Final Waltz in Vienna

As I sit here, my journal brimming with tales of ballet bliss and Viennese adventures, I realize just how quickly time flies when you're enjoying every minute. My heart feels brimming with the energy and spirit of this incredible city. The magic of Vienna is everywhere, from the cobblestone streets to the opulent palaces, and in each detail, from a perfectly crafted strudel to a fleeting moment of inspiration amidst a bustling crowd.

There's no doubt that Vienna has left a lasting impression, one that will undoubtedly weave its way into my future adventures and creative pursuits.

I'm already planning my next visit. Maybe a trip back for the Vienna International Ballet Festival - fingers crossed, it will be held in November this year!

I hope my travels inspire you all to embark on your own pink-tutu journeys! Be courageous, explore the world with a smile and a twinkle in your eyes - remember, life's a grand ballet, so embrace every step, every turn, and every twirl!

Until next Wednesday!

Love,

Emma x

  • Vienna events on the 26th of May, 2021: Unfortunately, I wasn't able to find specific events held on the 26th of May, 2021. But rest assured, Vienna is always bursting with performances and festivities, so I recommend checking out local listings for a complete picture!
  • Travel tips: As you may have noticed, I travel with a small pink travel bag brimming with my essentials (pink tutus!). This includes a couple of light tutus for impromptu ballet adventures and lots of pink accessories. I always ensure I have room for purchases from local markets or boutiques - always on the hunt for beautiful pink fabrics and embellishments for my tutus!
