Pink Tutu Vienna: Waltz Through The City of Dreams (Post 1363)

Hello darlings! It's Wednesday again, which means it's time for another peek into the world of Pink Tutu Vienna! This week, I'm writing to you from the heart of Austria, the stunning city of Vienna. I know, I know - another European adventure! You'd think by now, I'd have conquered every continent, but alas, there's just something about this continent that draws me in like a moth to a flickering gas lamp. The architecture, the food, the fashion, the history - oh, the history! And, of course, the ballet! I am positively in my element.

This week, I found myself drawn to Vienna by the lure of its grand opera houses and the promise of breathtaking performances. And speaking of performance, how do you think this week’s pink tutu look is going? You might notice I have traded my usual fluffy ballet pink tulle for a more delicate rose shade - perfect for the blushing floral displays adorning Vienna's grand squares.

But let's rewind a bit, shall we? My journey to Vienna began in the most romantic way imaginable - a train ride! From my cosy little cottage in Derbyshire, England, I hopped aboard the Eurostar, a chariot of glass and steel hurtling through the heart of Europe. I spent my journey sipping steaming cups of Earl Grey, gazing at the lush landscapes whizzing by, and indulging in a delightful book about the history of ballet shoes. It was the perfect prelude to my Viennese escapade.

Arriving in Vienna felt like stepping into a storybook, or perhaps a beautifully choreographed ballet. Imagine cobbled streets lined with stately buildings adorned in faded grandeur, the sweet aroma of Viennese coffee mingling with the intoxicating scent of blooming wisteria. Everything was, shall I say, dreamy. And, just like a princess arriving at a grand ball, my heart began to thrum with anticipation for the waltz of discovery that awaited.

First things first, I had to find a base, a haven, where I could rest my weary ballerina legs and plot my waltz through the city. And let me tell you, the hotel was truly stunning. Imagine white marble floors, high vaulted ceilings with ornate chandeliers, and, most importantly, a breathtaking view of the city’s majestic cityscape. They even had a pink feather bed, which I had to confess, tickled me pink!

Now, you know I can’t visit a new city without experiencing a ballet show, can I? After carefully scouring the internet for the best offerings, I discovered that today, the Vienna State Opera, housed in a grand, neo-Renaissance building, was hosting a performance of Swan Lake! My heart did a pirouette. I promptly booked a ticket, feeling an excitement as delicate and ethereal as a ballerina's whisper.

Before the show, however, it would be criminal to pass up the opportunity to wander the charming streets of Vienna and explore its many treasures. The afternoon sun painted the cobblestones a golden hue, making the city glow with an irresistible warmth. I ambled past the exquisite shops selling Viennese porcelain, hand-painted fabrics, and artisan chocolates - oh, the chocolate! It truly is the best I have ever tasted, and just a bit like a delicious ballet dance, you can never have too much!

A few hours later, I found myself swept into the plush world of the Vienna State Opera. The theater itself was like a grand ballroom, its interior draped in red velvet, illuminated by glittering chandeliers, and brimming with excited whispers. I felt as though I’d been whisked away into a grand production - and the performance itself was no less enchanting.

It wasn’t just the breathtaking choreography and exquisite costumes that stole my heart (though let's be honest, those were spectacular!). The emotions poured onto the stage, the stories whispered in every elegant pose and expressive gesture - I was transported!

This performance wasn't just a spectacle, it was an immersion in the world of classical ballet. Each intricate detail of costume, makeup, set design, and music spoke of generations of passion, talent, and history. I felt a thrill ripple through me as if the ghosts of ballerinas past were dancing alongside the current stars.

And then, the grand finale! I'd almost forgotten to mention my lovely floral patterned pink tutu for this event. Oh, but my pink tutu, I thought, it looks like a piece of this grand show itself! A perfect little accessory to tie my trip to Vienna together. I found the perfect rose-coloured shoes to complete the ensemble, adding to the elegant Viennese charm.

With a swirl of tulle and a flourish of pink, I took to the stage, my dancing a personal finale to a glorious day. (Oh, did I mention that there are also street performances here too, giving me plenty of space for dancing!)

After my whirlwind Viennese ballet adventure, I discovered an equally delicious, yet entirely different side to this charming city - its cafes. Ah, Viennese coffee! Imagine an ethereal blend of strong espresso and delicate foamy cream, served in impossibly exquisite cups adorned with delicate porcelain roses. I found myself swept away by the romance of the cafes, indulging in these sweet, bitter delights, accompanied by generous slices of delicious Sachertorte. It felt like the perfect way to end my day.

Of course, what trip to Vienna is complete without a dose of history and architecture? And believe me, Vienna doesn't disappoint. Imagine sprawling palaces built in the Baroque style, museums overflowing with treasures of the Habsburg era, and enchanting gardens blooming with vibrant colours - you’re basically surrounded by a beautiful stage set that begs you to dance!

And don’t forget about the Schönbrunn Palace. Oh, the palace, darling! I was absolutely mesmerised by this breathtaking Baroque estate! You should know, it used to be the summer residence of the Habsburg emperors. And trust me, it is like walking into a movie set! The sprawling grounds, with their fountains, sculptures, and gardens, were utterly divine, transporting me back to a time of grand royal balls, intriguing courtly intrigue, and whispered secrets. Oh, it had me absolutely smitten, I assure you!

Even now, as I write to you, I'm sitting on the edge of one of the city's enchanting parks, listening to the sounds of Vienna around me - the gentle melody of a street musician, the chatter of children playing in the distance, and the rustle of the wind through the leaves. There’s truly a captivating energy in the air here, and I can’t resist twirling, dancing my heart out with the lovely locals. It’s just an irresistible spell!

And you know what? The very best part about my time here was realising just how accessible and friendly this city is to a ballet-obsessed, tutu-loving, pink-enthusiast like myself. It truly was a symphony of delightful experiences - a waltz of delightful discovery and captivating memories.

So darling, if you're ever feeling a little bit blue, a bit less than twirlingly fantastic, just remember this: life is an elegant ballet waiting to unfold. And like me, Vienna will greet you with a warm smile, a whisper of romance, and perhaps, just maybe, even with a sprinkle of that oh-so-necessary pink!

Now, excuse me, while I head to the Vienna State Ballet school tomorrow to pick up some tips and learn some local Viennese waltzing!

Yours in tulle, Emma
